looks pretty good, before sealing it, you could also apply heat (in a well ventilated/outside location) either a torch or heat gun/hair dryer) if done lightly it will give a more natural texture and also harden the foam making it les prone to breaks in the future..

I did something similar for my Russian tortoise. I usually will not use dry lock but will cut the foam insulation to the shape that I want and then smear it with caulk and then cover the caulk with peat moss. makes it look like soil

Best way I've found for doing this is, any type of foam material, polystyrene, insulation board or greatstuff construction foam (if it's from a can make sure it's fully cured). It can be a combination of everything. Adhesives can be hot glue w/ toothpicks poking between layers for strength, or silicone which takes time to dry, or gorilla glue is super strong. Assemble the structure and carve desired shapes. Then apply 2-3 coats of sanded grout or tile pointing, letting time to dry between coats. Then you can paint details with acrylic paint, it's nontoxic. And when you have everything how you like it, apply 2-3 coats of water based polyurethane or pond/aquatic sealer, or drylock. And you're done. The biggest factor in doing it well is practice and patience, seriously take your time and make sure everything has a chance to cure and dry... This also works very well for making hides.

I'm trying to figure out how to use a very tall display case for a bearded dragon I know they like horizontal surfaces but I thought if I did it correctly with enough ledges it would work and be pretty. Any ideas

10 months late but vertical spaces aren’t suitable for bearded dragons, even with ledges. They’re need floor space, it would be cruel to keep them in a vertical enclosure

How does the drylock hold up to claws over the foam? Does it make a hard shell or does it stay flexible?

@@Tarasaurus13 I've since started making entire cages out of foam, paper and wood glue. So far it's holding up to a spiny tail iguana and a mangrove monitor. "Poor man's fiberglass" is what gave me the idea. Making all my cages out of foam board now.

@@matts1072 nice! That's super cool. How do you seal the foam after finishing the paint and everything once it's done? So that the claws don't tear it up? And how easy is it to clean if the animal poos on it?

Maybe this isn't even a nice build 🤣🤣🤣 It's nice! You don't great. I think on my next 4×2×2s for Fang and Aang I'm going to do the background with all wood pieces sealed to the wall!!! I'll screw logs and limbs to the back wall and together in the enclosure to make my design. I did the foam before, and I just hate messing stuff
