I was waiting to see how you were going to seal the MDF. I also like/prefer shellac for sealing MDF. The shellac keeps out the moisture and toughens up the edges.

Shellac is one of my favorite sealers for MDF, not really needed in this application though. This has served me well thus far except one of my lamps is acting up, one of the LEDs is probably failing or has a bad connection. One of these days I will get around to it. Cheers! Chris

A flow hood outside the window directing the exhaust air downward would have served you better at preventing back draft.

I love this video , really Great work and craftmanship , i wish had the same skills as you :) also like the fact you converting to mm not many do from the US. Any chance you can use this out side in the summer , i really want to make this one but i live in a very small home, and do not have the space for it insidem even my shet is small :)

Hello Hexxas, I don't think this will hold up outside very well. If you substitute the MDF for an exterior plywood and some exterior paint that will help a lot. The other issue is the fans, as they are electrical and are not designed for exposure to rain and snow, that would present a very dangerous electrical condition. Sorry. Cheer! Chris

Hi Chris, old video I know but came across this while looking at ways to make my own airbrush spray paint booth. You may mention this in the video (I’m currently 20mins in as I type) but do you have the plans and .stl files or parts list at all? Also how is it holding up 2 years on? And changes you’d make or improvements made? Was the wood thick enough or could you of gone thinner to save weight? All the best, Steve. P.s. I’m in the U.K. if it matters. Edit: just heard you say plans etc on your website 👍🏼

Hi Stevenfindlater302, I don't think I have had proper links to the supporting documents, sorry about that. Furthermore, on the companion website I placed that project in the CNC section. Must have been a really bad day! Here is a link to the companion website makingstuffwithchrisdehut.com/ Here is a link the supporting files. makingstuffwithchrisdehut.com/misc-project-files Regarding how it is holding up... I have not used it as much as I would like to but it does work really good. The exhaust fans keep up good, the filters contain most of the paint and don't pass it all through. The lighting is pretty good, one of them is giving me fits but that appears to be a bad solder joint. It is heavy, you could certainly make it out of some material that is less thick but you may have to reenforce the corners. All in all, I am very happy I made it and certainly my lungs are happier too! Cheers! Chris

Certainly not needed in this project - it is a solid structure for its purpose. Adding a rabbet would add complexity making it more difficult to make for those who don't have a lot of tools. Cheers! Chris

Came across your video, and was wondering in the fans you used are "explosion-proof" (i.e. rated to extract flammable vapors such as many type of spray paints, lacquer paint fumes, etc.)…? If they are, do you have a link to the where to purchase these fans (or brand name and model of the fans so I can search from them online)…? Thanks in advance.

Hi lestatdelc Unfortunately this spray booth is not intended for flammable vapor painting. As for explosion proof fans, be prepared to spend a LOT of money and to build the booth out of metal and metal ducting. Chris

@@MakingStuffwithChrisDeHut - "be prepared to spend a LOT of money and to build the booth out of metal and metal ducting." Yeah, that's why I was so excited about your fan/spray booth, because I was hoping you had a line on a vapor-capable fan that wasn't in the $100+ plus range. But thanks for the reply.

In Italy here we have these Oven fans (Ventilatore TANGENZIALE per Stufa) which use a centrifugal fan where if you construct the duct right you can keep the airflow sparkfree. Cost about 30-40€. Works ok mostly. 🙂

@ryannawrotzky4488 Hi Ryan, Sorry about that, after reviewing the video I realized I had no intention of including drawings so people could make it ia size to fit their needs. I did create a quick sketch of the paint booth and added that to the zip file. You can download the new zip file from the same location as the previous one. Cheers! Chris

There's no mention of using explosion-proof fans. Depending upon the solvents in the paint, not using spark-free fan motors can be a hazard.
