How to Make a Cookbook Stand // Easy DIY Woodworking Project, Great for Gifts!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

a cookbook stand is a really quick and easy woodworking project that also makes a great gift or a great item to sell. Once you nail down a pattern that you like, you can batch them out very easily. A cookbook stand is not only useful, but can be decorated to match your home decor, or personalized for someone as a gift. If you want to know more about the transfer technique, check out our video on serving trays; I go over it more in depth. Also, check out our channel if you're looking for more easy woodworking projects. This cookbook stand was a hit with my wife and it only took about 20 minutes to cut and assemble. All in all, it was a great project. Thanks for watching!!

    I just googled the phrases and the chart under images. That's where I find most of the designs I use. I do usually adjust them a bit on Photoshop to make them my own.

    So how did you get the graphic on? Can you show how the stand is made just using wood with no bracket? Explain the angles?

  • @boydstongrove

    The graphic was a applied using a Inkjet printer technique. I have a full vid on my channel explaining exactly how to make and apply one. If you wanted to make a stand without a hinge, you could always cut a triangle piece of wood and attach it to the back so the stand leans on the triangle. As far as the angle of the stand; none of the boards were actually cut at an angle, they're all square cuts. I just adjust the leg on the hinge until I felt the angle was at a good place to hold the cookbook without it tipping forward.

    Is that a special type of paper you used to make the transfer on?

    I used the backside of sticker paper that I got off of Amazon. I peeled the sticker off and fed the paper into the he printer so it would print on the slick side of the paper. You have remember to print your pics in reverse and be careful not to touch them because they’ll run right off that slick paper.

    @@boydstongrove I was going to ask the same thing... So follow up to that is, do you have a video showing how you did it. I think I understand the concept but I'm more of a visual learner. Thanks for the information and awesome video.

    @@wesleylangston8286 yes, actually, in the “craft store box makeover” vid and the “custom coasters” vid I go over it in detail and show the paper and the different steps. A few people have asked so I think I might add a pictorial based instructions to my website. I actually got the idea form Steve Ramsey over at Woodworking for Mere Mortals. He did it years ago on one of his builds. If you have any questions, just hit me up!

    Does it matter what kind of wood you use?

  • @boydstongrove

    @boydstongrove

    Not really because you’re not going to use it for actual food or food products. The dark one I made from cedar and the light one I made from scraps.

    Just wanted you to know I just released a video specifically about the transfers. I'm not sure the type of wood matters, but I have found that the smoother I sand it, the better it works.
