THANK YOU!! I have been looking for something inexpensive to make me a light box for my stained glass and yours has been the best! I am no carpenter but I now can make me that box and I loved the way you got that opaqueness needed with just tracing paper and the two panes of glass, I can now do a box better than my husband can!!!

Using the sides of the frame and two pieces of glass with tracing paper solved my "frosted glass" dilemma. I had a different idea for the base, but your video helped with the most important part, the surface to trace on. Thanks for the great video!

Great DIY! I made a few modifications to mine. I took large Plexiglas Frames I got at walmart that they sell for posters. I bought 6 of those for 14 bucks and they worked a little bit better since I was building a larger version plus is case of an accident it would flex if hit and not shatter.

I was about to say the same thing, but the idea is for this to be as cheep as possible. Having said that I could still make this better, safer and cheep. I will see if The king of random, or Echo Young or someone I know will do it. Because honestly I don't have a lot of time to make a video of this. :)

I love this. I had a huge light proofing box years ago and I was stupid and sold it. Now I wish I had it and this gives me some good ideas although I could use my screen exposure unit's yellow proofing lights. But it has clear glass. The white or frosted glass is best for proofing negatives and photographic films. Also great for tracing ;) Come get some Catspit~!

The tracing paper in between is to make the glass opaque which distributes the light more evenly across the surface of the glass.

Been thinking, I feel the most important part was the top of the box, one could easily get sturdier wood and make the box like you have, only it will be more firmer and stand some weight when tracing on the glass pieces. Great thinking....thanks!! Your are a good bloke alright!!

wow - what a great idea to use two ready made frames. I also like that you can vary the amount of light depending on how bright you need it. I've got a bunch of old negatives to go through and I'm dreading it, but this project is do-able even for me and will make my task a lot easier and maybe even enjoyable. Thanks!

an alternative to using lamp lights within are L.E.D. Flashlight miniatures or a wide face L.E.D Flash Light. They will not get hot like a lamp light and if the usage of a lamp light is applied, use a laptop fan platform under it to keep it cooled down and add vent holes to the lower back area of the box to vent the heat.

Though one other thing you should really bolt light element to side of box and letting it lay on underneath surface would be a fire hazard! To do this you could purchase a bottleneck connector there are some that come with two nuts that you tighten Usually to a metal plate to add support. Check out your DIY centre, they are usually quite cheap.

plexiglas I also noticed was betting at absorbing the light straight threw and glass was reflecting a little bit of light. That way I didn't have to buy the big studio lights and instead I could just use the table tops.
