How to Make a Bra Pattern from a Bra You Already Own: Bra-Making Adventures Part One

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In today's video I'm showing you how to make a well-fitting bra pattern by cutting apart a worn out bra you already own. This is part one of my two part series - in the next video I'll show you how to actually sew up a bra using the pattern created in this video. Here is the link to Part 2: • How to Sew a Partial B...

Thanks for this, I have a wireless bra that got chewed up in my washer and I figured I’d try and make my own pattern. It’ll probably take a bit of work converting it to a wire bra but it saves me $16+ on a pattern for my first try.

I am SO glad I found your tutorial! the most helpful bra-making vid I've ever watched! I'm an avid thrifter but have not purchased underwear this way. I too have a bra I love and cannot find another one anywhere. Not willing to cut it up so working to get the cup the right fit. Then my journey to copying it is just ahead! Thank you!!

Thank you for making a video on this!! I've just taken apart one of my designer bras as it's now almost falling apart but it has so many more parts than your lovely bra LoL.. so, I'm watching your video and about to create the pattern pieces.. I also have several other bras that were bought as a special bulk buy (before last Christmas) and I've got the option at least of using those underwires, clasps and fixtures. I'll await your next video to see how you put the final piece together, can't wait! (Carly)

I'm so glad you found this helpful! I know my bra is a pretty simple style, but hopefully you can still use the principles to figure out how to put together your new version of your more complicated designer bra!

Thank you so much for making this video! 😘 I believe every woman has their favorite bra, the one that fits her like no other, and once it‘s worn out, and you discover, that the brand doesn’t make it any longer, it leaves you kind of...naked. Very good and detailed information, also getting straight into it, without any ladeedadeedah, which I appreciate very much 👍🏻 I haven’t ever sewn a bra in my life, I didn’t want to purchase bazillions of patterns for bras, which are not going to fit like my old favorite bra in the end, and ending up frustrated, but I‘m going to give your way of pattern making a try, especially because my desired bra is very similar in shape to yours. Thumbs up from Germany 👍🏻 I can’t find Part 2, the cutting and sewing up video, could you please link it?

I need a pattern for a front hooking bra. Shoulder issues necessitate a front closure vs back closure or pulling over my head.

What size bra do you wear? Would you copy the pattern pieces and make a pdf for other people to use?

Question: doesn't this only work if you're going to make a bra that is similar style or same ?

You could use this method to make a pattern from pretty much any bra, but of course depending on the style of the bra you use the pieces may be different than mine. Also the sewing instructions in the next video in the series would only apply to a partial band bra (so the band doesn't go all the way under the cups).

When I started my blog several years ago (before my KZread channel) I named it "Adopt Your Clothes" because it was originally focused only on refashioning, so I was "adopting" unwanted thrift store clothing and updating it to fit my style and give it a new life - which is what my parents did for me when they adopted me. It was just a name that resonated with me at the time and I still like it so I've just kept it even though my blog and now my KZread include more than just refashioning! 😊
