How to Make a BIKE CRATE With a Custom Quick Release!
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Here's a single day build of a utility bike crate made from scratch. My wife wanted to spice up her vintage Bianchi Advantage hybrid bike with a convenient storage crate.
The whole project is made out of 12mm (1/2 inch) 9-ply baltic birch plywood. This is great stuff! Baltic birch is a very easy product to work with - it's easy to cut on a table saw and sands easily, but is strong and hard enough to hold up to many uses. It also looks beautiful when stacked in multiple layers.
For this project, I developed a quick release mounting plate which at one end, and a cleat on the other. The cleat goes through the bottom of the crate and holds securely. This whole mounting plate also fits inside a channel on the bottom of the crate, further increasing the left to right rigidity between the two pieces. This mechanism works super well, and I'd use it again if I had the opportunity.
Follow along as I break down this project from start to finish!

Great job, ingenious quick release solution 💕👏👍
Love how simple and complex you made that look
With 8 views and 23 subs, this is by far the smallest channel I subscribe to. I’m glad I’m getting in on the ground floor. For once I feel like liking and commenting make a difference.

Thanks josh! Glad to have you here
Great work, David! Can’t wait for more.
So glad to find someone doing this. Ive been tjinking about something for my ebike for awhile now and im totally here for the quick release! Keep up the work man!
That's just plain cool.
I’m using this as a jumping off point for building a number of different boxes for my e-bike to increase its utility. The first thing I’m going to do is keep the base raised in case I want to use the sides of the rack for panniers at the same time. Should be a fun project!
Great work!
Brilliant .
Muchas gracias amigo your vídeo help me a lot
Nice job.. you have given me a solution to my problem. I think I would reverse the orientation of the metal latch. Great. Job. Thanks
Nicely done. I'm a tad lazier than you in that I just bolted the baltic birch box to the rack. I have a second box about 1 ½" high just for carrying a systainer. Again, it's bolted on.
Great video thanks for making it. I wonder would you recomend using gear ties in stead of zip ties? That way you can remove it easier when you do not want the crate.
A top view of the cleat on the bike would be helpful
you are Awsome
Plastic is still lighter 👀 but great projects would look nice on a schwinn cruiser man the classic look
Put some piece of wood in hole (in basket) and thet is the protective lock ;)
I bought an universal AVS adapter plate for my bike’s rear rack. It only costed $20 and has a quick relase built-in. It is also super light weight. Now I can fit any type of case, crate or basket prepared for the AVS system onto my bike, or I can buy an AVS adapter that can be mounted to any crate or basket I like.
Nice crate, but way too heavy for me.
Dang. Can you make me one please?
While I thought you presented well on camera and it was nicely done, it `was too fast on the details and not enough explanation. I'm still a little unclear on the quick release and the plate you attach to the bike. I appreciate that it was a quick video, but I wish it were a little more focused on the "how to" aspect. Just my 2 cents, thanks for showing the project and posting.
To fast
The world looks good. Pause. It's just so heavy. Pause. I rather plastic.
