I very rarely bother commenting on videos, but as a hobbyist 'jeweller', mainly making silver rings, I've watched a lot of other jewellery making videos, and this is up there with my favourites. Love the commentary, which adds so much important detail. I'll be checking out all your other videos. Keep up the good work.

🎉 Not perfect I know - but I’m learning. This was the first time I’ve melted my scraps into a little bar and milled it. The first time I’ve made a ring to hold stones with one solder and I’m pretty chuffed! Thank you Ydna! ❤

Fantastic tutorial, loved every minute and learnt a shed load. I've just bought some setting burrs, so I'll give this a go at some point. I'm glad you mentioned the Assay office. You say that it's strict here, yet I see loads of UK jewellers on eBay selling £1000 silver chains, that they say are 925 "stamped in house". Outstanding work as always and thanks for sharing.

Yeah. If it's over 7 something grams, you can't stamp yourself. If it's imported it's okay. But you definitely can't claim stamped or made in house. Pleased it helped. Still sorting this week's video out, but next week's video is me setting this ring. Thanks again.

Hi Ydna - Very nice neat work once again - I like your way of presenting what we do in a 'No nonsense' way that people of all levels can understand and enjoy. For me it is interesting to see the ways you do things, different to the way I would do the same processes - for example, you use a clamp a lot more than I do - I tend to hold everything in my fingers. Maybe I should use clamps a lot more - it would save my poor fingers from getting so beaten up! I am looking forward to seeing you set the stones. Keep up the great work. Phil

Good morning. Haha. I only normally use clamps when stone setting. The only reason I use the clamps is to keep my left hand and fingers out of the way of the camera. It's much quicker not using clamps. I prefer to not use clamps. I just can't get the camera to focus when my fingers jump in the way too much 🤣

I’ve started mine - clearly not in your league (yet!) 🤣 I need to tidy up my scalloped edges - but I’ll be doing that this weekend and I’ve got some garnets or spinels to set in it. I’ll share pics when it looks a bit better - but I’ve been wearing it as I thought it would be too lumpy, but it feels great 🎉🎉 Love the videos 🥰

Thank you. All the tools get a mention in one video or another. It's really hard filming everything in so much detail, then trying to do the commentary in one go. So it's literally what I can put across as the most important thing to say at the time. The only two ring clamps that I use though, are wedge style and screw bottom clamps. They should both be available at all good jewellery tool shops. 👍🏼 Thanks for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it a lot.

Could you show people how you go about making a 'Basket or Cage' setting for a stone on an interesting type of shank. Cheers. Phil

I will in due course. I have lots of other things on my list too. There's a felt shaping tutorial coming up and recorded. Then I've done one of my fun projects without commentary, which I haven't done in a while and been really wanting to. So that's been good for my brain power as they're much easier and quicker to record. Especially when I'm busy in the studio too.

Once again - great video. I'm looking forward to the nest one. - Quetion, When you do the Bright Cut around the stones, do you prefer to use a #2 Scorper of a #2 Onglette - I have tried both and I'm still not sure which I like better. Cheers Phil

@anniecoutanceau1691 hi. Thank you. Maximum size really is 3mm. Sometimes when the burrs get worn, they can be more like 2.9mm. My latest video is me actually setting this ring. And I do use a fresh burr that is dead on 3mm.

Hi. Cheers bud. Pleased it's helped. I only have the little Durston c80 mills. Durston are my favourites. I'm sure there are German and American ones that are just as good. Just anything but those cheap Indian made things. They don't even mill straight.

I'm pleased to hear the subtitles worked. That is correct. The yellow flame that has less oxygen than the blue part of the flame, does create a layer of soot. It can help sometimes. But it is one of those things that sometimes it doesn't help. If creating silver jewellery with wide sections, it is always worth trying because those wide surfaces are always hard to clean up. Hi Phil. It completely varies. Most are about 55 to 60 degrees. Half round scorpers when used used are more like 45 degrees.
