Yes, that's the reason. The baby listened in ar but studied carefully, because it wanted to learn to howl like that. And soon it will be, and then they will need a bigger dog to calm the baby down. Evenj the neighbors will know when the baby is hungry.

@@darkball31 I don't think that's what he's implying, here. Dogs have been our companions for longer than recorded history. We domesticated them hundreds of thousands of years ago, and many of our ancestors lived and died by how well they treated their puppers. To say that the songs of our ancestors are the songs of howling doggos wouldn't be THAT big of a stretch.

You know what I love: Your dog is completely understanding all your signals and is totally relaxed and not confused. At 0:03 when you say "Sophie" she instantly looks up to you, then you give the order "howl" and instantly she follows. I mean I know a lot of dogs, but she is so relaxed. You really got a clever family member there. ^^

They evolved next to people, and huskies were often used to babysit and take care of babies when people were busy hunting or something.

Not even a joke! Babies will quiet down to the sound of dogs howling, and it's likely this behavior evolved in human children because it aided in survival, which only makes sense if babies who didn't quiet down lead to people dying more frequently.

The howl is one of the traits that huskies are bred for. They are traditionally sled dogs in snowy regions so the howl is a sought feature for a few reasons: safety (as it can be heard from quite a long distance) pack communication are the main two. Despite popular belief Huskies are not "part wolf"...any wolf in the lines would have come from a couple centuries ago.

Best implies an objective best dog with X traits which is nonsense for two reasons, all dogs are the best dog and there is no objective better animal, just ones that are more well adapted for a certain environment/task. For example, we know that the mechanism by which the malamutes turn sugar and fat into energy is vastly more efficient and completely different from what wolves have and had, those traits weren't kept, they are new and the reason why malamutes can absurdly outrun a wolf by more than a couple hundred kilometers. There is no "best option" in biology, only useful and detrimental ones.

Nothing like a husky howl to warm my heart. I've had 4 and they're wonderful.

The baby is interested in how the dog is communicating, in the sounds he/she is hearing. At this age the eyes of the babies can't see very clearly and they are relying also on all their other senses - hearing, touching, tasting, later also on smelling. So while listening to Sophie's howl, the baby is tasting some little fingers :)) Not to mention that, at this age the babies are very connected to the living creatures around, they bond with any pet they have. Pity that later, they are taught by the adults to stop communicating with the rest of the world: "beware of that dog", "don't pet the cat", "don't touch the horse"... so the magic link is broken. Fortunately some of them find again the magic and recreate the bond with the living sentient beings around...

Absolutely adorable :) Though I myself am not a parent, I have been a baby ;) According to my mother, if I was crying and there was no discernible reason why (not hungry, not wet, not needing hugs, etc.), she just let me cry myself to sleep. Even babies have bad days, I would presume. Gotta let it out somehow :)

That was sweet...and the dog actually looked like it was smiling after the approval of a good job, giggle.

I'll start out by I'm an owner of a Siberian myself. Almost all the instances where a husky bites an infant is where the infant is a couple weeks old and just brought into the house. The husky doesn't realize what it is yet, and sometime instinct takes over. 99% of all these attacks are within the first 2 days of the baby being in the house. Husky's are a wonderful breed, one of the smartest, comical dogs you can have. I love my husky, and I trust him with my life AND that of my kids

These incidents occur mostly when the parents don't properly introduce the baby and the husky. From what I understand about huskies, they are perpetual toddlers that explore unknown objects with their mouth. When introducing them to an infant, it's best to do it through a barrier/gate. Reduces the chance of a mishap significantly, with any dog breed

Never heard of it happening. Huskies are sweet dogs. I've have one and never had an issue! They are great family pets in my opinion.

I was going to comment the same, that dog also reminds me of him, creepy tbh.

Howling is actually very relaxing... not scary as some people are commenting. That's what some of the nature relaxation cd's are for. I used them when my kids were little during their nap time. Great rest and relaxation technique.

Huskys are never mean, they are either obedient, or just restless and really energetic.

Baby is like "yeah I cant compete with that noise" and goes quiet.

I've seen this baby and now another baby in another video who has stopped crying at the sound of a dog howling, sometimes I wonder, can the noise of a howling dog be used to generally calm most babies? I'm not saying it'd work for every baby, but it might be worth a try, no? That is, after you've taken care of them with everything else so they won't cry, like after you've fed them and changed their diapers and all that? I don't know, maybe? LOL

I didn't have a Huskie, so the way I got my baby to stop crying was, I held a mirror up so she could see herself. Most of the time, she stopped crying and started baby giggles. Much better.

That was really cute! BTW I like your husky.

It's been 13 years, so chances are that the dog and baby have passed away by now. 😔

In many countries, dogs are trained pets. They love people and their kids. Children and dogs play and grow up together in many parts of the world! I grew up with a wonderful dog myself💖
