How To Make A 3 Stone Ring. (Quickest and easiest way!)

Check out the new Diamond Mounter merch!
cbilton.creator-spring.com In this video I give full instructions explaining how to make a 3 stone ring.
There are many ways to make a 3 stone design but I wanted to find a way to create one in as simple way as possible.
With minimalism in mind, I designed and created this ring. It has only 3 parts and 6 claws to make and assemble which means it can be finished quickly and accurately with more ease.
The video documents the entire process from start to finish!
With this channel I share with you some of the methods and techniques I have learned over the previous 23 years as a professional Jeweller. I specialise in high end bespoke pieces made the old fashioned way by hand.
I wish to document everything I know and make accessible to everyone rare skills and techniques only usually taught in high security jewellers workshops.
Please hit like and subscribe to be notified of future uploads!
The channel has potential to grow in to a great archive of jewellers knowledge with your help.
With patrons support I will be able to offer far more information than I am currently able to.
With over 2 decades of knowledge gained in the jewellery trade working with some of the best diamond mounters in the UK I can train practitioners of jewellery making, up to and far beyond the skill level found in High Street jewellers workshops.
I have been lucky enough to have been taught by actual Bond Street shop model makers and my ambition is to share what I have learned through out my career to as many people as possible.
My vehicle to do this is the Diamond Mounter KZread channel and now after nearly 1 year of uploading video guides, its time to take it up a level.
My ambition is to be able to make instructional videos with not just silver, but gold and platinum also. Some proper jewellers soldering equipment will enable me to create much more special pieces too! This will open up a whole new world of information I have to share.
There are many specific methods and techniques used for the different precious metals and knowledge about gemstones I can teach that will never enter my videos unless I am actually working with them.
If you may be interested in becoming a patron and supporting the channel to help it grow please click the link below to go to the Patreon website and find out about all the benefits that come with being a Diamond Mounter patron.

Its named the supporter tier which allows you to support the channel with out any substantial financial obligation. I will thank you personally on the next Diamond Mounter video uploaded!
I hope you will consider becoming a patron.

This video matches perfectly to where I am on my silversmithing journey (I’ve a mostly self-taught novice) it fills the gap out there where most videos are either very basic and nothing goes wrong, or quite professional and nothing goes wrong. I’ve learnt the most from the “mistakes” and hearing Chris describe how he plans to fix them and how these fixes can also evolve into something different has taught me heaps and given me more confidence to attempt things I may not have tried to make before. Plus lots of really useful tips thru out (angle the claws to the middle of the ring, complete the inner side of the ring shank before modifying the other shape, inset the claws where vulnerable……etc) Thank you

I have a question that could apply to many of your project videos - what would be an expected time interval for doing this project from start to finish, if you just sat down and did the work without filming, or narration, just full speed ahead working? And how long would it take on a "bad day" where things go wrong that have to be corrected? I know projects take how long they take, and every design is different, but I am curious about the tempo of the work, and the labor involved, and what "the boss" would expect for a beginner, vs a seasoned pro....?

Something like that 3 stone I would like to have 3 days to start and finish it. Its possible in 2 but its nice to have extra time for milling out metal and pulling down wire etc without feeling too much pressure for time

I am trying it out.. Ready to set my gemstones.. Chris, I am wondering... do I set the big stone 1st, then notch and set the smaller stones? My guess is that I shouldn't do the small stones 1st since u gotta slightly move the shared prongs to set the big stone.. Thank you for any help!

I don't know what you were doing. If you were making a master for casting, just buy a ring, there are millions of those. If it is fabrication, I find your method time consuming and difficult and therefore incorrect. I don't think anyone does it like this professionally. I can do it much quicker, with less ado, less sawing and everything will fit just fine. Please look around and find a better way of working.

@@DiamondMounter I'm not sure what exactly Dordi meant but as I see you are relying very heavily on filing and removing material and you are avoiding metal forming techniques almost completely. Generally speaking metal forming gives you more precise results, takes less time and creates less waste. Less waste is a big factor for most of us simply because it's not maintainable to file away 2g of metal just to make a 4g shank, especially for those working with gold or pgms. I understand it's not that big of a factor for you but precision is. And that is also faster and easier to achieve with metal forming. Think about it: would you rather spend your time filing a perfectly circular, true to size hole, instead of just grabbing your ring mandrel? Sound like a wrong idea, isn't it? I'm not saying that it is exactly what you are doing here with that collet cluster but it's a close analogy.
