How To Make 5 Miyazaki Meals

Фильм және анимация

Pretty much every Miyazaki film has me reaching for the crackers in an always disappointing attempt to appease the stomach growls that arrive shortly after watching one of his characters devour something delicious in one continuous gulp. But this time I finally went the extra mile and re-created 5 of his most delicious anime classics in a step-by-step 'How To' video. I hope you like it!

    Actually it’s wrong (I’m Japanese) Ponyo’s ramen is chicken ramen it’s very famous old instant ramen in Japan u can buy it in Japan and we don’t use sushi vinegar for onigiri rice and a little bit salt Totoro’s bento box is quite different. Satsuki used edamame and pink part is called Sakura denpun which is typical Japanese food (actually it’s not taste good though...) But your work is awesome!! I’m proud of you !! • @CROWcolin2

    @CROWcolin2

    6 жыл бұрын

    You can see the fat in the bowl of ramen. Visually, the ramen in Ponyo appears exactly like the pork ramen you'd get in an actual ramen stand in Japan. It's that pork broth that gives it that thick, sticky, deliciousness. And of course, the bone broth is created in large batches prior to making ramen. In any case, Dashi - which is konbu and skipjack tuna, doesn't at all represent the flavors of even instant ramen. It would be quite disgusting really. And why in the world would somebody mix dashi (A type of broth) with Vegetable broth, only to add pork? It's ludicrous. Just make 1 broth and make it pork broth. You just can't find good ramen in the states.

  • @SangosEvilTwin

    @SangosEvilTwin

    Depends on where you are in the states, there are great ramen places out there, but yeah, I strongly agree with not using dashi and vegetable stock in a ramen with ham. Even if using a higher end instant ramen from the local asian market, you'd never find that flavor combination.

    if you replay the scene of ponyo the character was just eating instant ramen (you can see the boiling water being poured from the pot) the recipe should only use boiling water and the seasoning packet from the instant ramen instead of vegetable stock and miso lol. yeah here in japan we do eat tonkotsu ramen made with pork broth that is simmered for hours like you just explained but we eat it on ramen stalls. at home when im hungry and don't have the time and energy to cook i'll just grab an instant ramen. obviously i know the difference but sometimes you're just hungry and you just need a quick fix. and ramen that doesn't have a sticky broth and uses lighter stock like vegetable, fish and bones simmered just slightly exist here in japan. we call it assari broth. perfect during winter when you need something to warm you up but not make you feel bloated afterwards. and housewives and moms here don't really cook ramen often at home, even if they do they'll just cook a simple shio or shoyu broth ramen that doesn't require long hours of simmering because most are too busy to be watching over the pot so the soup doesn't over boil. we'd rather just go to the ramen stall nearby haha

    Mistakes: 1. For making miso broth, you should take some hot water out and mix the miso into that before pouring it back in. 2. The ramen topping should be pork belly. If the English dub said ham, it's likely an Americanization (similar to Brock's jelly donuts) 3. There was no oil in the pan. The animation shows a thick slice of pork belly instead, probably using rendered fat as oil. 4. Pretty sure there was no bread or cheese on the plate. I did see baked beans of some sort though. 5. Not sure on this one, but congee (at least in China) is made with water, not dashi broth. 6. Onigiri is made with normal rice and salt, not sushi rice and sushi vinegar. 7. Use pickled plums instead of dried plums, dried plums are sweet and meant to be eaten separately.

    I think the Ramen from Ponyo is shoyu(soy sauce) ramen not miso ramen. Generally, we Japanese use only powedered soup to make "instant" noodle. We Japanese don't use Sushizu to make Onigiri. Sushizu is used to make Sushi, Chirashizushi(ちらし寿司) and Temakizushi(手巻き寿司). The fish in bento box in My Neighbor Totoro is maybe Shishamo (Spirinchus lanceolatus, ししゃも). Using Sakuradenbu is better than Katsuobushi for bento box in my opinion. (but,I think both are good.) There are a few differences, but I like your cooking. Nice! (^∀^)b

    If you use a mold to make onigiri at least use it the right way... most onigiri molds come with the part where you put your rice/filling in and a top part you press down to form the rice ball. You gotta press it down so the rice sticks together more or it’s gonna fall apart

    No no no, I'm pretty sure for the bacon and eggs dish, the eggs were cooked in the excess bacon fat. Thin bacon? What...ya gotta use THICC slabs of bacon to get that nice pool of rendered fat for the eggs. Or maybe even pork belly cuts? Nice video though.

    For a healthier version of the eggs that look closer to the way they do on screen, you can break them into a pan the way you'd do if you were making over easy/medium/hard but right when you would flip them pour in around a tablespoon of water into the pan and cover it. The steam finishes solidifying the white and you get the same as an over medium egg, Just be careful not to wait too long or you'll have a hard yolk.

    Your video is so great! But let me tell you a bit about the ingredients used. For rice, I think it is better to use round Japanese rice instead of thin Thai rice. And the pink thing (3:40) is called '' Sakura denbu 桜でんぶ ''. It is a little different from the bonito.

    Hold up, there's no need to add oil when frying eggs and bacon. Fry the bacon first, and a bunch of fat renders off. Plenty to fry the eggs on. And it's tastier, too.
