How to make 5 Birdhouses.
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this how to make 5 birdhouses video I show how I made five different types of houses. They are quite easy to make and I use mainly wood but one is made using some PVC pipe and two of them have metal roofs. Before anyone says that they will over heat I purposely put extra wood under the two metal roofs to act as an insulator. All the birdhouses have access for cleaning. I finished the outside of the birdhouses ONLY with some water based solvent free paints.
If anybody wants rough plans of one or all of them you can email me at eamonwalshdiy@yahoo.com
Thanks for watching!!

Hi Evelyn, thank you very much.
Great ideas thank you. Being an old man that has built my share of birdhouses, the only suggestion I would make to the inside is a piece of screen from the bottom to the hole so the babies can climb up. Great job!!

I dont think you want the babies 'climbing up' until they can fly. Then the screen is not needed. Putting a screen for climbing on the inside is asking for flightless babies falling out and not able to go anywhere or get back in. Bad idea.
Nice to see someone rounding the nail point to eliminate splitting the wood. Most don’t know or teach that. Great video

Really great job on all of them. I admire your skills with a hand saw and with driving nails. I a beginner and I'm not sure I'll ever be able to cut with a hand saw as well as you do. Everything is very clear and understandable. Thanks for sharing.

Love your birdhouse design's. I would just change 2 things. You need to scratch in groves so the babies can climb out of the box. Otherwise they will die. Also I would prefer to have a latch to clean the box that I don't have to unscrew each time. Something that can be turned to unlatch is better. Otherwise I love the look. Great job.

@@bondpaz Hi Pam. You didn't lie, you were simply mistaken. With so much hand sawing and hammering going on it was easily missed.
The round pipe one looks nice but the chicks will really struggle to get out unless you rough up the internal surface below the entry/ exit hole.
- Rewatched the video & especially liked the 'triangular' birdhouse. What degree of cut did you use for the top portion of the sides ??? I completed it with wood strips up 3/4 of the sides with metal for the roof. Very interested in completing it with wood & the sharp angle of the roof portion. Thanx 4 sharing.
बहुत सुंदर धन्यवाद ♥️
Boxes such as these often attract swarms of bees, who find that they can control the air flow that affects the temperature of their brood. To minimise this risk, make a second opening in the rear of the box, and they will be deterred.

Nicely done!. Quick dumb question, I noticed in the first house that you tapped the nail on the table a couple times before using it for the house, why is this? also what did you use to keep the door closed? what is that called? Thank you!!
@EamonWalshDIY
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Antonio, I tapped the point of the nail to flatten it a little as this helps to prevent the wood from splitting. I used these bit.ly/2FsOxrG to keep the door close as I had some laying around but any bit of flat metal or even wood would do the same job.

Like all but the triangle one is the one I want to try
Very fun to watch! Was wondering what your thoughts are on using some glue as well?
@EamonWalshDIY
Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. I don't think there is any need for glue plus its one less thing that may be toxic to the birds.
Would you be able to post pics of the birdhouses to show how they stood up to the elements? Also: why did you pre-tap the nails on your workbench before hammering them in?
@overlanderbenny3789
2 жыл бұрын
If you dull the point it is much less likely to split the wood. Also works well framing houses!
What size hole for the bird house ? Do you use glue?
what type of wood are you using? They are beautiful . Looking forward to trying to make
