I have to say that whole check your lug nuts montage thing that's been going on lately definitely induces a chuckle.

If you buy a new trailer inspect everything EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE TRAILER SALES LOT. I didn't and when I returned to my shop from my first trip hauling my jeep I found a spring just hanging under the trailer. On inspection I found the spring perches just tack welded in place to the frame. I didn't crash, but it could have been horrible. I spent the afternoon under the hood finishing all the welds and then some.

how do you prevent rust??? after 1 month, my brand new u trailer is rusting all over the place.

The answer to this question can vary widely and depends on where you live. What kind of climate do you live in? Do you live near a coast or in a cold climate where they use salt on the roads? Or did you purchase the trailer from an area like that?

I live in upstate New York and bought from a local dealer. Its actually less than a month old and has not been driven on road yet other than to pick it up from the dealer an hour away.@@TheTrailerSmith

@@donnaarnold5768 there are so many things that could be the cause of the rust and the solution depends on the cause. But 2 things that are very likely come to mind 1. It has a low-quality paint job OR 2. It was painted without having a primer coat. Number 1 is common if the trailer is a more budget friendly or lower quality trailer. Number 2 is quite common, a lot of trailer manufacturers actually do not prime before painting, but the dealership should have told you that before purchasing. Either way, you have 2 options. One is to just keep the trailer painted. Treat the rust spots and paint them, making sure to keep paint on any new chips, knicks, or cracks. The second is not very cost effective, but it will deal with the root of the problem. That is to have the trailer sandblasted to take it all the way down to metal, and then have it primed and painted. I'm not sure what the warranty situation is for your trailer, but you may explore that avenue with the dealer, as well. Good luck!
