    Congratulations on your maiden, boy you weren't kidding that little road was very narrow and I look a little rough! But you got it done using those piloting skills. I enjoyed you taken us through the whole process of prepping for a maiden. Glad you didn't run out of elevator...

    I'm not a turbine guy, more an advanced electric (scale) model pilot. I like the way you approach a maiden, calm, one thing at the time, step by step, don't rush the first flights. That is how it's done! And I learned again some tips. However I was a bit surprised you rely on the "reduced power" for range check. I maiden a lot of planes at my club, two didn't pass a full range check (so we didn't fly), but passed the reduced range check. I just don't rely on a reduced range check, only have faith in a full range checks (that means walking :-) ). Great work with the video series, they're stacked with tips!

    Hello Dries. Thanks and thanks for watching! When I did the range check I walked 120-140 ft way from the plane and then did reduced signal at that point.

    Good video Jonathan. I enjoyed the play-by-play commentary as you were flying and trimming. I too have a final punch list of items before the maiden. Yours is very similar. I noticed you didn't trim ½ flap and full flap prior to actually setting up for landing. I do a few circuits to trim the two flap positions and get a feel for airspeed in those positions. Then set up for landing. Anyway, all good. Great flight. Looking forward to seeing it fly when I get back from AZ.

    @@thelightersideofrc I have a question if you don't mind me asking. Everytime I deploy my gear and flaps my planes almost refuse to land, I find myself forcing a steep descent down and then after ground effect it just picks up a fair amount of speed. Am I doing something wrong. Trimmed for level flight at 3/4 throttle, and landing with nearly 10 percent throttle.

  • @thelightersideofrc

    @thelightersideofrc

    3 жыл бұрын

    Couple things. Flying too fast. Deploy those things. Go 2-3 mistakes high and see how slow it will go. Get used to it. Other is your plane may need more elevator compensation to counter the flaps. If your slow and it’s ballooning then add more down elevator compensation. Not sure how long you have been flying but I find a common mistake is just flying too fast and landing too fast.

Generally on touchdown my plane will only roll maybe 15 feet or so, I'm flying a p39 airacobra, it'll get really twitchy as far as roll rate it'll get so slow. Thank you for the advice I greatly greatly appreciate it.

  • @thelightersideofrc

    @thelightersideofrc

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks! It's pretty simple. Basically it's just an extension of the fuel system. So where it plugs into the fuselage is the vent for the planes fuel system. The startup tank just plugs into the vent and adds another tank to the system. So beauty is your always 100% sure your starting with full fuel tanks.

  • @thelightersideofrc

    Hey Skunkworx. There are so many great options now! Something like a boomerang (twin boom) is a great aircraft to start with any 10 years later you can fly the crap out of it! If your not into the twin boom design there are so many great conventional aircraft from wood/fiberglass trainer type setup to full fiberglass aircraft. Feel free to email me and we can discuss further. thelightersideofrc@gmail.com
