Put some wax paper between the magnets when glueing, good way to not stick them together, and makes the glue dry flush with the magnet.

Be careful smashing those magnets when they are in your hands. When they reach their limit of impact they shatter/explode. Little pieces fly everywhere. I’ve used tons of magnets with my job. Great video though!!

I've been using Shoe Goo for years. In fact, I'm using it on a custom Gen8/Axe body build right now. The secret with Shoe Goo is that it really needs 48hrs to dry. Even 24hrs is not enough time in my experience.

Great video, nice fix on the dancing lights in the background! Regarding magnets, I've been using the ones with a hole on body post and shoegoo flawesly for a while now. A quick and very useful tip, you should put a layer in between of the magnets like a piece of tape when you are glueing the magnets to the body so the glue doesn't stick to the magnets on the chassis. Great video as always.

I used JB Weld to hold the magnets on my Gen 8's with great success & no failures. I also used just one 3/4" magnet per inner fender placed on the outer most recess. I glue the magnets to the inner fenders first with the body side magnet attached so that I avoid the polarity issue you talked about. Once dry, I flip the body over & apply glue to the body side magnets (still attached to the inner fenders to insure perfect alignment) & set the chassis into the body & let it all cure. So far so good. Great info, good job 😜

ALL I use is that JB Weld Clear Epoxy. Thanks for pointing out WHY the standard JB Weld doesn't work. Also - Shoe Goo, E6000 and variants, DON'T work permanently where WE LIVE in the Southwest!! Why, because they MELT in 110+ degree temps! 🔥😳 Many People don't realize that. I would never take credit for INVENTING the concept of Magnet Mounting RC Bodies... But I am one of the originators. Go back to my oldest Videos, everything but my Tamiya CC01 is Magnet Mounted. I was one of the lonely fools who perfected it! 😉 We all believe that Chris at GCM Racing in Canada, was the one who came up with the concept, about 2011..... Francis, you should also do a Video on how to do Magnet Mounting RC Bodies with standard Body Posts. That's the vast majority of RCs... Come to think of it, I think I will. The 30 people who watch my Channel might be interested!! Carmine ✈🚂🚙

@@marios3163 I let them sit at least 6-12 hours... But the Clear JB Weld Epoxy is much stronger than the Gray. The Gray was originally developed for Automotive use. It's designed to be HEAT cured on Radiators and Engines.

I’m planning to use the magnets on a TRX 4 sport in the front and setting up a hinge in the back. I have gone with a magnet with a countersunk hole and bolted it to the body post [think it was the front set that is flat underneath] after cutting off the bit where the pin would go and then using a solid magnet on the body. Just not sure what type of glue to use as gluing directly to the lexan body, don’t want to melt the body.

  • @TerraQuestRC

that's all well and good if your body and fender wells line up. My group got 4 Gen8's two blue and two orange. The orange bodies don't line up even with the Velcro. Mounting magnets compounded the problem and had to resort to changing one body and the other ended up getting pins. The Axe edition recently received, the body lines up better than any of the previous releases.

did this to my gen8 but did make the mistake of not gluing the magnets in the proper pole (direction). So, when I went to redo half the magnets I just put the body magnets on the chassis magnets first, placed a sharpie mark on the top of the body magnets and that ensured I was gluing it to the body correctly. Anyway I used jbweld epoxy for one half of the magnets and shoogoo for the body half, just to experiment. the instructions on the shoegoo recommends at least a 48-72 hour cure time, so it will be interesting to see which glue holds the best over time.

I build laminated recurve bows (for hobby) and use EA40 epoxy, 1700 lb per square inch adhesive strength, however it offers flexibility without becoming brittle and cracking.. The work time is about 1 hour and the setup time is 24 hours with 30 day for full cure.. Only a very thin layer is needed (best results when pressure of 50-55lb per square inch is applied (but not necessary))..
