How To Lube and Properly Tune Stabilizers - 2022

Ғылым және технология

Here is how I mod my stabilizers. I get asked this a lot of my streams and honestly, I figured why not just record this so I can link this video instead of having to re-explain it every time. I hope you enjoy it. Please remember this video is only covering lubing and installing, some stabs like cherry clip-ins, you'll need to clip the bottom legs of the stem, this video does not cover that nor assembling the stabilizer.
For anyone who is wondering about this vs other mods, I prefer this method but other mods are fine and you should never feel bad using other mods! But I really do think you should be wire balancing.
Also if you want a written guide on how to build a keyboard, I have one now: www.alexotos.com/how-to-build...

Thank you for advocating for wire balancing! I was expecting this guide to be a bit more generic but that step is pretty important. Some things I would like to add is that you should only be balancing ONE side of the wire and remembering which side it is to insert into your stabilizers. If you balance one side, the flipped over side WILL be crooked.

@@alexotos I'm probably extremely unlucky then, as I've purchased dozens of stab kits (durocks, TX, staebies) and not a single one came with a straight wire. Thus I've been trying to refine my wire balancing, you do still hear some rattling and ticking in my videos, but I'm getting there. I look forward to a more advanced video Alex!

glad that the addition of wire balancing was added into this guide. There isn't many of these stabilizer videos that include steps on how to do it yourself, and previously I've just had to teach myself how to do it by watching others do it, since no one ever explained it. I'm sure this will be super helpful for many people. Balanced wires are super important to get rid of stabilizer ticking.

This is absolutely the most comprehensive guide about stabs. Finally someone gives proper advice on wire balancing (rather than wildcat just quickly doing something, and not saying or explaining anything), goes through best options regarding lubes, and shows exactly how to use the syringes. If you added a guide on Holee mods this would've been absolutely spot on. Just one question popped into my mind: I have all of my lubes in the glass jars, and I would not like to purchase the same lubes in a syringe that the vendor provides. So my question is: What kind of a needle do you use for your syringes, I'd like to know the exact size of the diameter of the needle. I tried using a syringe with Tribosys 3204 using a 0,45mm needle, was too small, only got some small drops of lube out. I hope you'll see my comment and give an answer, thank you so much in advance, and thank you for the tutorial. All the best my dude

It's also good to note that it's always recommended to use the washers on any size PCB because it's not just used to tighten the screw but also to avoid metal coming into direct contact with the surface of the PCB so as to not damage it.

  • @phlooke

    @phlooke

    Жыл бұрын

Most newer PCBs especially higher-end reputable company's have ESD (electronic shock protection) on their PCBs.(and reputable brands will always put in the description if they have this feature on the PCB), but you're correct. If the PCB doesn't explicitly state that it has ESD protection then It's always a good habit to treat every PCB as if it DOESN'T have this protective feature by always using the washers included with your stabilizers (on PCB mount /screw-in stabilizers).

Sort of a Poor man's XHT-BDZ. But I think Wire Balancing is the way to instead of those epsi mode/holee mod! Hope that more Stab manufacturers release stabs inside of a case or something like Gateron Ink v2 stabs!

Awesome video. I think there should be an included how to assemble guide and then lube the stabs, by far the trickest part for me as a first time builder was not only knowing you had to push the wire into the clip at the end of the housing, and thats after i got dielectric all over my fingers from the awkward angles needed to grip the wire itself, this is especially difficult if your stab housings are solid instead of translucent, so it's much more difficult to gauge how much lube from the syringe is "enough".

Hiya Alex! I want to give my input: I have had better experience with XHT-BDZ than 205g0, in that it lasted me about 3-4 weeks w the BDZ than 205g0. But take this as a singular opinion out of thousands!

When plugging the front side of the housing with dielectric grease, doesn't it eventually settle on the pcb and the stem gets mushy on the bottom out?

Any advice for spacebar tick caused by long pole switches? Noticed it on my kaihls and gat box inks and I have no idea how to fix it. I put tape on the spacebar insert to avoid the Keycap popping up on one side but the tick is still present. Any personal experience with this?

Hi Alex, love the content. I've built about 3 boards, but nothing in the past year and a half. Thinking about purchasing another board. In the past, I've always done holy-mods to my stabs. I noticed that in this video and in your VOD streams, I notice you don't do it. I find the holy-mod to be quite tedious, and wondering if the syringe method takes the place of the mod? Appreciate the builds and positivity of your streams! Have a great holiday season.

For me it does! I MUCH prefer the syringe method! The holy mod is so tedious and i find over time they come undone and its a hassle to fix happy holidays to you too!

Hey, I have a question! First of all LOVE the video, and it's production quality. I was wondering if when the stabilizer on the other side (|_| that kind of shape) ticks, should we bend down on that side as well til there is no wire ticking on both sides. A reply would be much appreciated thanks!

Does it matter what brand of dielectric grease you use? I bought a cheaper one from permatex. I also bought some empty syringes instead of the one from TKC, I'm assuming I should be able to just load the grease into the syringes?

Great video! One question though. What do you do if you stabilizers won’t clip into the pcb because the length is to short? Thought it was a thin board but apparently not

Yo, does PTFE lube and grease work for lubing switches? Its what i use on my 3d printer and have lots of high quality of both of them. Lube comes in a spray can, grease is.. grease. The grease seems the same consistency as krytox. They are both non-conductive.
