HOW TO: Lower your Peugeot/Citroen

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this how to video, I show how to lower or raise the suspension on a torsion bar beam/axle. Usually found on Peugeot's and Citroen's.
There are other methods. This is the one I prefer, you may have other ways you prefer. That is fine. Happy modding!

You are absolutely right. The same applies to the 206. I just bought a 206 1.4i (TU3) from 1998 and it's still really good. I am convinced of the older Peugeot models and have already had at least 8 pieces myself. 205, 5 x 206, 406, 106 (208: is actually good, but no longer has any character).

Hi piggy, looking to buy a 205 this weekend and this will be first thing I do. I'm a mechanic and have lowered lots of cars but never a torsion set up. How different is a 205 compared to your vid or same? I dont wanna go mad on it looking at 40mm drop on front springs then rear to match. Is it as clear cut as 40mm springs on front measure the 40mm on the rear and will sit straight down the side afterwards? I dont have GTI money when buying the car so will be either a 1.6 petrol base model or 1.8 diesel model. Is there anything you can think of I will need in advance before its lowered, part wise, to replace or upgrade on the suspension while I'm there as I only intend to do it once, and will the standard shocks be ok on the 40mm drop? Thanks mate and keep it up liked and subscribed.

Standard shocks will be fine... But could be worn out due to age... It's very similar in principle to the 306 setup. I'm 90% sure 306 shocks fit the 205 if needing replacements... Look for a nice diesel version and then upgrade layer in time to the 1.9xud turbo lump...dirt cheap, massive upgrade... Message the channel if want more info on it 👍 Have fun 🐷💪👌

I'm new to this channel, I subbed after I saw the quality of the video and you making it easy to do yourself. I just wanted to add this: I have a problem with my rear axle I guess, my car sits low on rear end and one wheel is cambered negative, ride quality isn't the best. Now, do I have to replace the entire axle or just bushings and this torsion bar? I'd really love to hear that it doesn't cost much, as the entire unit costs around 200€ used and new one is even more expensive (no dampers/shocks and springs included). 2003 Peugeot 206 it is. If anyone knows solution to this and has info, I'd be more than thankful for it.

It sucks having to replace the entire unit... I estimated all costs and I need to put in 500€ worth of parts to make my car sort of top notch. I payed 1450€ for it. Is it worth? I intended to keep it as it's engine was very well maintained, but it has just a little over 300 000 km on it. That's like 190 000 miles approximately, right? What are your thoughts?

You could also be pulled over for a general documents check. Nothing illegal about that. If you have not declared the modification to your insurers, it is illegal as your insurance would be invalid. If you lower it to the extent where there is no longer any travel in the suspension or a wheel/tyre fouls the bodywork when turned or suspension compressed, also illegal. However... Those are the jacking points. I wouldn't use those for axle stands. I'd use the axle or the subframe for axle stands

I bought this tool tbh. It's nice quality. Not sure I could replicate it without quite an expense as I don't have the bolts/nuts/materials of that size/material kicking around. Slide hammer will do nicely, £30-40 for a decent hefty one 👌

What a bunch of over engineered pieces of shit. A whole weekend for just the rear. Was going to lower a friends for him but after watching this nightmare no chance. Why can't they just be a normal spring and strut setup like 99.9% of cars out there.

Haha... They are a little more tricky that replacing a set of springs... Many other manufacturers use this setup though and some are returning to it . . . If nothing is dramatically seized... The advantages: They can often last the lifetime of the vehicle = huge saving on parts and labor over the lifetime of ownership Fully independent suspension at the rear of a fwd car .. for a cheap fwd car of the era this was amazing. Fully adjustable height... You can adjust the heigh to within a mm of whatever height you'd like without buying any parts. Downside: it's a right sod to adjust the height. 😂🙈 🐷💪
