Yep! In the waning days of my 28th year, now about halfway through 29, I really amped up my activity, I sleep more, and cleaned up my diet. I went from about 140/90 to about 115 to 122/80. There is still work to do, I am trying to add more intense cardio to my routine. I lift 3-5 times a week, walk about 10k-13k steps a day. I cut most added sugar and try to have plenty of water. High blood pressure runs in my family, and I get stressed easily, but these are the years to make sure the foundation is solid.

I’m glad he mentioned for some people, pharmaceuticals are the only way. I was diagnosed with hypertension a few years back. I run half marathons and had a body fat percentage under the recommended threshold, cut out caffeine and salt as much as possible. It had nothing to do with exercising or eating in my case, it was work stress and genetics. My father has high blood pressure, my grandfather had high blood pressure his entire life and lived to 85. Our family just runs higher BP. I take a low dose of Lisinopril and that has taken care of it. Without the pharmaceutical I average 140/88, with it 119/70.

Any side effects from the low dose of Lisinopril? I'm similar. 44 years old, very fit. Can run for hours, exercise daily. I do tend to be more Type A in my response to daily stress. BP will elevate to 140s/80s mid workday, but it's like 115/60 for a few hours after a good cardio session, so I'm not sure if I should medicate or not. At the clinic, it sometimes spikes much higher when they take it because I'm phobic about them taking my BP.

Not mentioned but highly, highly relevant; stimulants. For me, I've always had a sensitivity to caffeine, and any amount of it skyrockets my blood pressure from low 120's / 75 to as high as 168 / 80. (3+ coffees which is the norm for fat Americans and Australians) Quitting caffeine and everything that contains it will do wonders for your blood pressure, as well as all other CNS stimulants. My BP had been borderline high for years when it was checked at the Dr's office. I end up in the hospital for something 7y ago and was screened throughly and put on 10mg lisinopril. I was 270lbs and the BP was probably high enough to be on a BP med and now I'm 180 and I'm still taking a BP med. BP really didn't change substantially with 100lbs of weight loss. I'd rather be in between hypotension and 120/80 even though I'll get lightheaded at times.

@@flowerpt Not really, it changed some times when new studies were used as a basis to update the guidelines and mind you, not everyone is from the US. There are different interpretations of what is hypertension according to different guidelines. For instance, the british guideline differes from the german one, and both differ from the US (AHA) guidelines, which are probably the strictest. In terms of by how much the hypertension should be reduced it really depends on comorbidities and age of the patient. It really makes no sense to treat an old lady to a degree where here sys value goes from 170 to 120, because you'd have to give her a lot of meds most likely, and you expose her to the danger of hyPOtension, and falling is a big risk for elderly people already. Also, after decades of atherosclerosis building up, you blood vessels get stiffer, so there is a tendency for the sys value to go up unproportionally compared to the dys value. That means that if you treat the upper value significantly, the lower value is affected a lot, which could lead to low dys values, again possibly leading to unwanted symptoms.

HBP is simple lysine deficiency problem because of lysine arginine antagonism. Average diet contains too much arginine and too low lysine (It was the opposite a century ago). Seeds are arginine sources (all seeds and not only grains). Yeah, you will need more oxigen but lysine is important producing healthy hemoglobins. Lysine is important everywhere in fact (essential amino acid)...

Just did some basic research and it seems like arginine consumption tends to correlate with decreases in blood pressure because it helps synthesize nitric oxide, which in turn helps relax blood vessels. Am I missing something?

2:33 The problem is that, both patients and doctors _in the vast majority_ don't actually use medications as a bandaid, they use it as a final solution. that is definitely not true for MDs. They will all tell you, change your diet, exercise, reduce stress. Of course most patients wont be able to do that significantly and still a lot wont at all. A lot patients know they are too fat, eat s**t, dont exercise, and they go to the doctor to get a pill exactly so they dont have to change anything. People go to the doctor to keep doing what they are doing and still get old, not to have him tell them, they need to change their life. And really, I dont know about the US, but in the EU doctors dont make money with prescriptions.
