How to Loop Real Instruments in Ableton Live with Fixed Length (using Launchkey Mini + Sustain)

Музыка

It took me hours and hours to figure this out from various KZread videos, so I thought I would make my own and try to condense it and make it easier for you. Let me know if you have questions!

Oh my gosh! I once set record quantization to none and then totally forgot that setting exists. That tip alone will help me a lot! 🙏🔥

Thanks! I'm a total newb with Ableton Live 11, I had to watch the video a couple of times to get it, but it's working now. I've never used MIDI mapping before so I'm thrilled to see it work so easily.

Thank you for this! been trying to figure out how to loop live guitar/bass/vox with set start/end markers for a while. I have this setup for my live MIDI instruments already and it is so much better for live performance workflow. thanks again!

Are those looper stacks separated or all merged? And thanks for the clear video.

I have this loop station project where all loops are prime numbers in length (#of beats or bars), is there any way to preset loop length to anything more customisable than a multitude of 44 bars?

Where do you plug the sustain pedal into?

So what actually allows you to set the record/play loop at a preset determined link? Ableton Live or the type of external device you use with AL? I have AL Intro 10 and I want to preset midi and audio tracks to a record/play/overdub length so I can just switch tracks, arm, record then on to the next track with out stopping to adjust the length… for a smoother, more productive work flow

You can set a trigger command to any key on the computer keyboard, a midi keyboard, or a midi launch pad.

THX MAN ! but i have a question:Why is it that when I click the session record button with my mouse or map it to a computer keyboard, I can record normally, but when I map it to a MIDI device, I have to press and hold it to record, and when I let go of it, it cancels the recording? thx!!!!

Nice vid! Only other way to fixed length loop in my experience is with clyphx pro. My take on that style of looping is that its cool if you have some pre written arrangement that you need to get done quickly for a video or performance. In my opinion, based on my loop heroes (Mark Rebillet, Thomas Piper) live sets, fixed length looping just isnt that necessary.

I’ll have to check them out. I was inspired to figure this out after watching a guy on TikTok do 80s covers…lol. He didn’t seem to be hitting a button to close the loop, so it got me curious. But all these looping artists inspire me. It’s amazing what modern technology enables one person to create live these days. I’m just getting started. It’s exciting to see where it takes me. So far it’s helped me take a 2-chord jam and entertain myself for hours tweaking instruments and adding parts.

I have a song that is 24 measures long that I want to do. TULSA TIME. Can you show us how to use ONLY real instruments to make a song? Some of us don't use MIDI, and a real instrument only tutorial would be really helpful. Like one track rhythm guitar, one track bass, one track lead and a lead vocal with a couple backing vocals?

maybe you can put a gate on your guitar track sidechained to the record or arming of that track, so when your guitar plays it starts recording?
