Q: what if all the participants are playing from there homes? More like a relaxed kind of tournament. All I want to do is manage stream their stream from twitch into a specific channel on twitch or KZread or any other platform. More like displaying 3 screens every match from three different players. Also they all play on PS4. Hope what I said made sense.

    1. Each participant needs a PC, capture card, and console. Host needs OBS 2. Participants will “stream” to a website called OBS Ninja. There’s a way to setup multiple people streaming to a specific room that the “host” can set up. 3. Follow OBS Ninja instructions to add participants feed to Stream overlay. I think those are the basics

Hello! Yes, your scenario makes perfect sense! You're looking to create a stream that showcases multiple players (each playing from their own homes on PS4) simultaneously on a single broadcast channel on platforms like Twitch, KZread, or others. This can be a great way to host a virtual tournament or a collaborative gaming session. Here's a step-by-step guide on how you can set this up: 1. Collect Stream Sources Each participant will stream their gameplay from their PS4. The simplest way for them to do this is by using the built-in streaming capabilities of the PS4 to broadcast their gameplay directly to Twitch or any other supported streaming platform. 2. Use a Streaming Software To manage and combine these individual streams into one, you'll need to use streaming software that supports adding external sources, such as OBS Studio (Open Broadcaster Software), XSplit, or Streamlabs. These tools allow you to capture and arrange multiple video feeds into a single stream layout. 3. Add Individual Streams as Sources OBS Studio: You can add each player's stream as a source using the "Media Source" option or, for Twitch streams, using a browser source with the player's Twitch stream URL. XSplit: Similar to OBS, you can add each stream by using the "Webpage" source type and inputting the direct URL to the player's stream. 4. Arrange the Layout Once you have added all individual streams as sources, you can arrange them on your canvas. Most software allows you to resize and position each source as desired, enabling you to create a layout that shows three screens (players) simultaneously. You can also add overlays, text, or other graphics to enhance the viewing experience. 5. Stream to Your Desired Platform With your layout set, you can now stream the combined feed to your preferred platform (Twitch, KZread, etc.). Both OBS Studio and XSplit allow you to stream directly to these platforms. Ensure you've set up the correct streaming key and any other necessary settings in your streaming software. Tips for a Smooth Experience Test Beforehand: Run tests before the actual event to iron out any technical issues and ensure all participants know how to stream their gameplay. Audio Management: Managing audio from multiple sources can be tricky. Decide if you want all game audios to be live or just the audio from one stream, plus commentary. Communication: Set up a way to communicate with all participants during the stream, such as a group call on Discord or another VOIP service. This will help coordinate transitions or address any issues that arise. Internet Bandwidth: Ensure you have a stable and high-speed internet connection, as you'll be uploading multiple video streams at once. By following these steps, you can create a dynamic and engaging broadcast that showcases multiple players in a virtual tournament or collaborative gaming session, all playing from the comfort of their homes. So most games can be run in "observer mode" and the game itself will show what-ever view they think is best, possible who ever is closest to the ball for example. So, you run a seperate computer, with the game installed, logged into the game but in observer mode. Not all games offer this but most esports centric game do.

How would you split audio from the streaming PC so that multiple casters can hear audio and have their own mic playback?

If you can manage to get a Dante AVIO (usc I/O or the Analogue 2 Channel - then using a xlr to 3.5mm adaptor) to get the audio into your desk you pretty much have as many line out options as you might need.

Hello! Setting up audio for multiple casters in an esports tournament, especially splitting audio from the streaming PC and providing individual mic playback, requires a careful approach to ensure both the casters and the stream receive clear, balanced audio. Here’s a general outline of how you might set this up: Equipment You Might Need 1. Audio Mixer: A key piece of equipment for managing multiple audio sources and outputs. It allows you to control individual mic levels, mix them, and send them to different outputs. 2. Headphone Amplifier: If your audio mixer doesn’t have multiple headphone outputs, a headphone amplifier can provide each caster with an individual feed. 3. Microphones: Each caster will need a microphone. Dynamic mics are typically preferred for their directional nature, which helps reduce background noise. 4. Headphones: For each caster to monitor the audio. 5. Cables and Adapters: Ensure you have all necessary cables and adapters for connecting mics, headphones, and the PC to the mixer. Basic Setup Process 1. Connect Mics to Mixer: Plug each caster’s microphone into the audio mixer. 2. PC Audio Output to Mixer: Connect the streaming PC’s audio output to an input channel on the mixer. This will typically be the game or event audio. 3. Individual Mic Monitoring: If the casters need to hear their own voices (a feature known as 'sidetone'), make sure the mixer supports this. Adjust the levels so each caster can hear themselves without delay or feedback. 4. Headphone Mix: Use the mixer’s auxiliary sends or dedicated headphone outputs to send a mix of the game audio and mic audio to each caster’s headphones. 5. Output to Streaming PC: Connect the mixer’s main output back to the streaming PC. This will be the audio feed that goes out to the stream, including both the game audio and the caster’s voices. Advanced Options 1. Audio Interface with Software Mixing: For more advanced setups, use an audio interface with multiple inputs/outputs and software for digital mixing. Software like Voicemeeter or Adobe Audition can offer more control. 2. Compressors and Limiters: Use compressors and limiters on the caster’s mics to maintain consistent audio levels and prevent clipping. 3. Noise Gates: Implement noise gates to reduce background noise when the casters are not speaking. Tips for Successful Audio Management 1. Sound Check: Always do a sound check before going live to adjust levels and ensure clear audio for both the casters and the stream. 2. Communication Lines: Consider setting up a communication channel for casters to talk with the production team without it being heard on the stream. 3. Backup Plan: Have a backup for critical components like microphones and headphones. Conclusion Managing audio for an esports tournament with multiple casters requires a good audio mixer, appropriate microphones and headphones, and potentially additional equipment like a headphone amplifier. Setting up each element carefully and conducting thorough sound checks are key to ensuring a successful audio experience for both the casters and the audience.

Is the "production PC "running the game? or OBS receives a video signal from the "Observer PC"?

The Observer PC needs to run a video capture software such as NDI Screen Capture. This way it can be sent to OBS. Another way is with an HDMI capture card

I knew about the networking behind esports. But I don’t know how does the observer get game capture and webcam from every pc? Is it a software?

There is a book called Esports in Education that explains this in more details. But essentially one computer runs the video game in observer mode. You can capture this video in a variety of ways one of them is with NDI Scan Converter which can output the content over the network via NDI.

Hi! In esports setups, particularly for live streaming or broadcasting, capturing game footage and webcam feeds from each player's PC can be quite complex. This setup typically involves a combination of hardware and software solutions. The role of an "observer" in esports is usually to switch between these different feeds to provide viewers with the most engaging perspectives. Here's a general overview of how this can be achieved: Game Capture Capture Cards: Each player's PC can be connected to a capture card, which is then connected to a central production system. Capture cards like those from Elgato, AVerMedia, or Blackmagic Design can capture high-quality video and audio from the gaming PCs. Network-Based Capture: Software solutions like NDI (Network Device Interface) can capture and transmit high-quality video and audio over a network. Each gaming PC would run NDI software to send their screen and audio to the production system. Webcam Capture Direct Connection: Webcams can be connected directly to the player's PC and captured along with the game footage either through the same capture card or via software. Separate Webcam Feed: Alternatively, webcams can be connected to the central production system separately, either through additional capture cards or network-based solutions. Production and Switching Switching Software: Software like OBS Studio, vMix, or professional hardware switchers are used in the production setup to switch between different feeds (gameplay, webcams, commentator cameras, etc.). Multiviewer: The observer might use a multiviewer setup to see all feeds simultaneously and switch between them live. Networking and Software Gigabit Ethernet: A robust network infrastructure, preferably gigabit Ethernet, is crucial for handling multiple high-bandwidth video streams. Streaming Software: Software like OBS Studio or vMix can be used to composite the scenes, including picture-in-picture setups (showing gameplay with webcam overlays), and to stream the final output live. Audio Mixing: Audio from each gaming PC, along with commentator audio and any other sources, is mixed using audio mixing software or hardware mixers. Communication: Players and commentators are often connected via communication software like Discord for live interaction, which is also integrated into the broadcast. Cloud-Based Solutions Cloud Gaming and Streaming: Some setups might use cloud-based gaming and streaming solutions, which centralize gameplay and broadcasting in the cloud, reducing the need for complex local infrastructure. Considerations Latency: Low latency is crucial for real-time gameplay capture and streaming. Synchronization: Ensuring audio and video synchronization across multiple sources is a key challenge. Reliability: Redundant systems and network connections can help mitigate the risk of downtime. Conclusion Capturing game footage and webcam feeds in an esports setup typically requires a mix of capture hardware, robust networking, and sophisticated production software. The observer controls the flow of the broadcast by switching between these feeds to create a dynamic and engaging viewer experience. The specific setup can vary widely depending on the scale of the event and the available resources.
