I'm in my late 60's and was a stay at home Mom, after my youngest daughter was born. We did soooo many " free things ",... I called it " Adventuring ", and my daughters really looked forward to it, even though the oldest 2 were in Jr High School at that time . We made a simple picnic, went to the park to have a several hour picnic, which included playing games, feeding ducks, walking around the lake. It was such a nice thing. Oftentimes we would just go looking for rocks ( for Rock collection) Arrowheads, old bottles, etc. We did so many things that were of little cost, except gas for the vehicle. We also did not have cable, and watched movies, had camp- outs in the Lounge ( living room) once a month ,where we did get take out pizza , we had popcorn later, with a movie, and made things fun, for little $. Too much of the world today is not appreciating outside time, playing outside, riding bikes...; taking a good book - even my kids loved this - and taking a picnic lunch to the park, and just enjoy being there, away from the house . Thank you for sharing your thoughts and tips , I know those will be helpful to others. 🙏🏻🙂😊

Thank you for this. I am now 1 year into staying at home with my son and we have definitely visited various parks around town as something to do. I always have a small cooler in the car when we leave the house with snacks and or lunch so we don't get tempted to stop for food. You mentioned a bisquit recipe. I use those frozen ones, too. Can you link the recipe you use now? Thank you again.

Keeping a cooler in the car is a great idea. Thank you for sharing! The biscuit recipe is actually this one but without the blueberries, sugar, or lemon glaze. I don't have an actually recipe link with just the biscuits. :) mycountrytable.com/sweet-blueberry-biscuits-with-lemon-glaze/

So many good tips, Emily! Even years into my stay at home journey, people ask how we do it. I think it often starts with choosing to make the tough decisions and find the areas to cut. And yes, maybe you are going to have to earn some extra money babysitting from home or running a blog, but be creative and determined! It is definitely worth any and all sacrifices! Oh, and thanks for sharing my blog, sweet friend. Glad I have helped you along the way, just as you have helped me! ❤

Do you have tips for bigger purchases...for example if your stove was to die...do you have a savings fund for those kinds of things or do you use a credit card and pay off later?

We like to compare prices as much as possible and even purchase second hand for those things. Having a savings is great. But if you have to use a credit card, try to pay it off asap.

My question is always how much is that 1 income bringing in. It may be possible to live on $80,000 a year but what if your husband only makes half that

Yes, I know what you mean, but we have lived off of even lower than that. It’s hard, and you do have to cut back a lot! The best thing I did was to start a side hustle to help supplement my husband’s income. There are so many things you can do from home to earn extra income. That helps relieve a lot of the financial pressure.
