A few things to note: - I am not Gordon Ramsay - We each have wildly different diets. I would assume that this diet may not work for everyone. I know plenty of people who choose to refrain from eating meat, gluten, carbs, etc.. At the end of the day, I try my best to consume any type of food in moderation. You may read a study today on how a certain food may cause cancer, only to hear the next week that people who eat that specific food live longer. - As my income has increased, I have chosen to expand my food budget to $50+ per week so that I can choose more sustainable, healthier food options. - You may have noticed that chicken took up nearly one-third of the expenses in this video. This may be anecdotal, but from my experience, eating less meat can be more cost-effective (and humane). If you choose to forgo meat entirely, make sure you are getting enough protein from other sources.

Three things that may be game-changers in your kitchen in line with the cheap theme: a cheap cutting board, a cheap t-fal non-stick pan (great for eggs and pretty much everything you cooked here), a cheap/medium-priced chef's knife.

My top tips when it comes to saving money on food: -Buy in season and local fruits and vegetables. -Eat more legumes instead of meat and fish for protein. -Make cheap carbs the base of your meals: rice, pasta, potatoes, bread, oatmeal... -Freeze anything is about to go bad and save it for next week. -When you think your fridge is empty, wait for one or two days more before you go grocery shoping, you will be amazed about how much you can make if you are a little more creative (plus, you can get rid of food that is going bad). -Do a meal plan for the week, make a shopping list according to the plan, and only buy that. -Eat healthy, but not fancy food. As a single, older woman, I get a kick out of challenges that let you eat healthy AND cheap. It's fun to come up with new ideas. The family pack of chicken was smart, then, freeze the chicken breasts, individually. I also buy the family size (3 lbs) of hamburger, when that's on sale, and divide it up and freeze in 1/2 lb portions in sandwich baggies. Meal prepping is also nice, so you have food "ready to go". I cook 1 night a week, usually a chicken dish and either burger or fish dish, then tupperware up the leftovers for dinners the rest of the week. Soups, stews and chilis are great in the crockpot, and all cheap to make. Eggs, onions and potatoes are guarantees that you'll never starve, because they are so versatile. Fried taters/eggs for breakfast, baked potatoes, stuffed with cheese and whatever meat and/or veggies you have around. Onions flavor everything. Stir fries with rice/veggies and leftover meat. Cheese quesadillas are a fast and filling meal, ready in minutes, or make breakfast wraps with eggs/cheese rolled up in them. Boil chicken, then shred, and make chicken salad for sandwiches and/or add some to pasta with sauce. Hardboil eggs for devilled eggs, egg salad for sandwiches or dice to put in salads for extra protein. I ALWAYS buy a turkey at thanksgiving! At $.39/lb, don't think there's a cheaper meat out there, and for like $7, you can get a HUGE bird, roast, then pick it and freeze for later...turkey soup, turkey sandwiches, turkey salad, pot pie...etc. ONE turkey, picked and frozen, can literally last you for MONTHS! Look online for new recipes, and keep on cooking!!!! You're doing GREAT!

Ramen noodles or bread/bologna/mayo/cheese for a sandwich covers for lunches, Then dinner you can get the chicken you got in the video, Rice, and some cheap frozen veggies. it all lasts awhile and will get you through the week on a cheap budget. Dont be afraid to butcher to portions). Fresh foods (fruit, dairy). Build your food around long term storage and a core number of meals then supliment with perishables as and when needed. Freeze leftovers and recook later. Some of these things could be in multiple categories. 365 days in a year so you need per person that many breakfasts, lunch, and dinners. I'm a single guy. On a Sunday evening, I get deep frying pan, dice 2 different fresh veggies, bell pepper, onion, a can of sliced potatoes or a 1/2-pound elbow pasta, some vegetable stock, and season it. On top I lay several lower-cost (and my fav anyway) chicken thighs. Cover and let it all steam on low heat for an hour. I put the meat in a container and fill 2 containers evenly with the veggies. This makes me 5 dinners - 2 microwavable veg., and, with a bag of salad, tomato's, mushrooms, and onions, with the meat cut-up into it, 3 more meals. I rotate the meat and veggies every week and sometimes, instead of meat, buy canned Alaskan caught salmon for the salad. Been doing this for MANY years.

Jii-El I completely understand and he did a great job with this video. The little rice bag was funny to me because as Hispanic, I have never even bought that little rice. I eat very similar and budget my grocery just like him (except the rice, I buy the biggest bag that can last a month or two), In this house we spend 30-40 in food for only 2 people.

We save so much because we don’t buy juice, snacks, almost nothing organic, or anything frozen. And he is very correct, most great value things are just as good as any other expensive brand.

Nate, tips on cooking those eggs; Use a little more butter on the pan and cook them on low heat. That's how you avoid getting the eggs stuck on the pan and you avoid burning them. The most important key is the heat, you have to cook them on low heat or you'll run into problems. You ever eat eggs from a Diner? That's basically how you get eggs with that same texture, taste and softness. BONUS, to get your eggs more fluffy, add in a bit of milk while you're mixing your eggs and you end up with delicious fluffy, non burnt, non stuck eggs lol.

Great video. I would also suggest some raman. Boil the noodles for like 20 seconds (while the water is hot), drain and set aside. In a skillet, scramble some eggs and garlic in canola oil. Add the boiled raman and drizzle the sauce packet and add a tablespoon of butter. Turn off heat and stir for 30 seconds. I lived off this recipe in college.

Soda does not give you any nutritional benefits, it's water and sugar and that's it. No nutrients. On the other hand, peanut butter jelly sandwiches have proteins, fibers and many other nutrients in the bread and the jelly (depending on the type of jelly you get) that are not provided in the soda. Moreover, the fat from the peanut butter is going to allow the body to digest the sugar from the jelly slowly, an advantage that you don't get with the glass of cola. Now I am no nutritionist, but it is obvious that you get more benefits by eating that sugar from sandwiches that are going to be your whole meal, than from a beverage that won't even fill you up

I’m proud that I figured this grocery list out on my own through trial and error You forgot milk tho Maybe apples Apples are convenient snacks if you’re in your way out of the door, cheaper than granola bars. Bananas help your brain make dopamine which helps with motivation, and they go with so many things again they’re convenient to avoid eating out. One thing I need personally is to get a French press that’s huge so I can keep ready made coffee in the fridge because I hate hot coffee in 100 degree weather Keep potatoes in the fridge, flies can make them home if they rot. Don’t buy the bag unless you prep ALSO If you need a relax like beer or wine, a cheaper version is to find an herb store and get catnip, lemon balm, or lavender and make tea at night. I personally like catnip because it helps release physical tension. Not buying alcohol saves you SO much. I’m a ho for juice right so I get cheap apple juice and then do half water and add half a lemons juice and it lasts m longer OH and I have the “flavor Bible” meat version and vegetarian version which is like a dictionary and you can look up your food or herb and see what flavors have been proven by professionals go well together. It helps you be creative without wasting food if you don’t get it right. I use it all the time You forgot butter also haha

Instead of generalizations, I would’ve preferred you to show concretely how those ingredients you bought for $35 lasted you an entire week by showing exactly what meals you made from them for each day for 5 days (breakfast, lunch and dinner and/or what meals carried over from leftovers). Because to me, it didn’t seem like they would’ve stretched for a whole week, even including leftovers into a next day or two.
