Thanks. This helped. I've been dealing with this pos for months now. It's on the landlord's "to-do" list but it's taking longer to get dealt with. It had a harder time starting today and had to look this up to trouble shoot something. Thanks again.

Thank you:) I have to say, the pilot light is really hard to see or hear. However, I turned the lights off, had my trusty flashlight, repeated your instructions, and voila! I have a lit pilot light:) Here's hoping it remains lit! Thanks again. Your video saved me a service call:)

I should add, that this is the second one of these in about 5 years. The first one went while under warranty. The top sprung a leak and sprayed water all over for days while I was away on a trip. This one has been fine until now, and I went to take a shower and had only warm water. So I did not have any problem with warranty replacement or repsonse from them.

Good news... Ever since I fixed mine it has been fine. I got Reliance to send me a new pilot assembly for free and I fixed it myself. It wasn't that hard and I m a ...drum roll...woman. If they ignore you, contact the Better Business Bureau and they will send it ASAP.

I actually ended up replacing the thermocouple. Reliance sent it to me free of charge. It was an easy repair :-)

Every year I have to replace mine. I think I should buy a new water heater

My pilot won't stay on either. I called the company and I'm having a hard time getting replacement parts for a water heater still under warranty. They insist its not a parts issue and refuse to budge. I even had a plumber diagnose the unit and he had a hard time dealing with Reliance. After a a week of cold showers and dealing with those hard heads I'm replacing the entire water heater.

It wasn't that hard to replace the thermocouple. If I can do it, anyone can! I did need to buy a special attachment for the socket wrench. But cheaper than replacing the water heater.

Hmmm.it's been awhile since I fixed it and I tried everything before finally replacing the thermocouple. It may need to have the filter cleaned. Do you know how to get to the air filter? I was able to find the owners manual on the Reliance site to see how to do this. Have you had any flooding? If so, you may need a new water heater. Once there is a rust problem it is dangerous to try to fix them. Good luck!

Sometimes you have to go through the steps a few times. But it is also a faulty part in my opinion.

Mine won't light by doing that, so something else must be wrong.
