Hi Dave after seeing your video I'm a bit confused.Your plants are nice and healthy,why dig them up so early.Many dahlia growers wait for severe frost and then do so.I live in northern Italy and don't get frost till Dec.even later,so what is the best way Thanks Bernard Daly

I compost the tops and leave the tubers in, just incase I need them. Then when I dig the plot I chop them up with the spade when digging them in.

never survive if i lift, told can just leave them and mulch them etc. in kent

You can do, it depends what you want to achieve out if them. If it's just garden colour then leave them and mulch. I am in essex so have similar conditions apart from maybe heavier soil structure.
