He said it was on a trip wire, which means they couldn't just walk directly there they had to look out for the trip. He also said it will blow by the stroke of 7 if he doesn't walk out alone so they only had 8 minutes to decide. If Tommy didn't put the pressure of time on Alfie then he simply could've just held Tommy there and investigated further himself.

yeh that's why he couldnt go shoot the boy standing outside, but the grenade is inside. many viewers have commented a good point as to why solomons didnt get ollie to check whether ther is a grenade or not, it was because there wasnt enough time

The barrels are always being moved. Tommy identified the barrel he tucked behind, not the barrel he might have stuck the grenade to. They were on a clock. Finding it was never an option

Nice job, I love all of your scene breakdowns, especially the ones for Peaky Blinders. I love how Tommy keeps going back to Ollie throughout the tense conversation ("What do you think, Ollie?" etc. etc. When they disagree on an amount.) like he knows that if he keeps pushing Ollie to have a bigger and more frightened reaction it's going to push Alfie into lowering the amount down because Alfie might be calm but he is still human and after a bit, he's going to get a bit freaked out too.

Cuz also just like Tommy Alfie is a information broker he makes it his business to know things about people and the fact that he didn't know that about the Garrison speaks volume

My favorite scene for sure, but besides an awesome video, even though the shelby brothers say its all "extra". I think he means "im already dead" because earlier in the scene Alfi said "Tommy, im going to shoot you." good videos man!

The ambiguity does create a bit of doubt doesn't it, because we also never really get to see what he did, plus the camera cuts away to Ollie not paying attention.

Another great thing about this scene is that we the viewers don't even know if Tommy is lying. Sure it looks like he is bluffing massively, but we also can't see what he's doing due to the camera angle. He might have planted a grenade after all

this is actually one of the points i wanted to mention in the video originally but didnt know how to incorporate it into the script without i'm glad you picked up on it too! you are absolutely right, we had limited information as an audience as well, so on our first viewing of the scene, we experience the threat the same way as alfie solomons would. We think he's bluffing but at the same time there's a chance that he might not be as well.

What I feel great about Tommy is, he isn't specifically proud of his achievements in the France war but he uses it at the right time to turn the tables in his favour. Be it impressing the chicks or strengthen his lies.

Alfie asked Ollie to go shoot the boy from the good family as an intimidation tactic, to tell Tommy that he doesn’t care about his plan to intimidate him coz he can fuk up the plan just by shooting the boy . Also to assert dominance over Ollie and demonstrate to Tommy that he has men who will kill for him. You will see this also in Alfie ‘s conversation with Arthur and Tommy where Alfie tries to provoke Arthur and realizes that Tommy has a man who will kill for him whether right or wrong.

Very cool, I’ll try this and see if it works at the bank.

the thing is the boy is outside the door, and Tommy set up the grenade inside. But yes there's also the issues of accidentally triggering it if Ollie went looking for them, and many other explainations hahaha

Tommy's entire story is about doing everything he can to do things the way he knows how without being a "rat" in a "tunnel", despite the tragic irony of his never being in full power. He's trying to come home, and he brought just enough of the war with him to make him an extremely clever criminal.

🤣🤣.... You know Alfie knows Tommy's nature. He is a man of dealings and negotiations, never sugar-coating or threatning. If Shelby was stupid enpugh to threaten him, Alfie would shoot him on the spot, because he won't loose his cool like that..

If he had ollie go check for the grenade and the wire is up, he risks triggering it with any movement. Best to let the guy holding the wire let go, then remove the grenade once it isnt under tension. They're in a rum factory after all

yeh it was just a bit of confusion with regards to the layout, cuz Tommy got the boy to stand outside first, then walked into the brewery and tied his shoe laces, so technically they can check behind the barrel without "walking through that door" and triggering the boy to blow up the grenade. anyways there's been plenty of comments already made with regards to why alfie didnt think to check behind the barrel. I think it's to do with a mixure of fear, the tension of the moment and just the lack of time.

@@ameennasar2583 well, personality is more nurture than nature so it’s developed over a certain period of time. Myers Briggs test was made w the concepts of the big five test. I’d look into it if you really want to understand more about yourself but remember, it doesn’t explain everything down to the T like we want it to. For me, very close which was scary but it was a relief to know that there are others who understand me since INTJ’s are one of the most misunderstood or “rare”

hmm interesting way to get a date

I'd say the reason he didn't send someone to check is probably that it'd take too much time for Ollie to go check and make it back to confirm if it's there or not, which if there was a grenade, just finding out it's there wouldn't do anything about it to solve that problem and instead they've wasted all of their time. Going to shoot the kid would make it so the grenade doesn't go off if it is there, so it's the most reasonable option he has, and Alfie knows that. When Tommy removes that option he removes the only solution Alfie can think of in the moment that'd work to ensure his own safety in the amount of time they have been given; there by doubling down on the pressure that Tommy's built Alfie up to feel in the moment by putting him back on the clock again. Then does he risk wasting more time to try and think of another solution, or does he attempt to call Tommy's bluff. And is he willing to risk his life to do so? As the odds of Tommy actually having planted a grenade increase the less likely Alfie is to bet against it. Because he's smart, and doesn't want to die. And Tommy knows that, so if he can actively convince Alfie that he doesn't care about his life if it gets to that point, then he's won. Realistically, this whole scene is essentially the two men playing an intricate game of mental chess, and poker at the same time and trying to figure out how much the other person is willing to lose. And Tommy wins.

Like planning/prepare and be vigilant about what we can use at the moment,,, rather than just explaining that Tommy was prepared and planned the scenario in details without knowing the context….
