Alright - I came here to prepare myself a little before I jump into the new WoW Classic Servers, just so it wouldn't take me as long as it did many years ago to reach level 60. You rock man! More videos please, and just don't forget the plain "1-6", "6-8", "8-10" kinds of vids like the very first one was! It was super chilling to watch. But "tips" ones are also supercool to watch! I've also got a question: aren't instances actually helpful for gear? I.e. pure questing vs also doing instances for gear along the way, which one will be faster? On a fun note, I will try not to make a bank alt for myself to increase the immersion and have to plan/visit big cities, will see how far it gets me though until I'm bored haha :)

Instances are super helpful for gear. I personally think that if you time it right, doing instances alongside quests is the more effective way to level. That's assuming that the instances you run have a decent amount of quests that correspond to them. I like that idea of immersion haha. Thanks for the support, man. another good tip is too level with the professions fishing and herbalism as they are quite useful later in raids and a good way to make gold to buy epic mount/ buy that bis pre raid gear

Great vid

Since you are using VanillaGuide I would recommend using MetaMap over Cartographer. VanillaGuide has been made to work with MetaMap and will add the suggested coordinates from VG to the MetaMap, map. As an alternative to VanillaGuide, I near TourGuide (released ~2months ago) + TomTom is really good if you're leveling a Horde character. Currently the Alliance guide portion of it needs work as the addon has been back-ported from TBC and suggests a bunch of quests that are not in Vanilla. The dev is currently playing Horde. Hopefully they'll make an Alliance alt eventually and fix that portion of the guide.

Groups are important! Sometimes. And druids are nice for level up, maybe they are a little harder to use properly for new players, but if you know how to do quests they are the number 1

The questie add on is in my opinion way cooler, it looks better than the quest helper that we got on retail, I love it, it fits also very good into classic, the one who made it is a king.

Grouping is good despite lower exp rates because often times quest mobs are scarce so if you don't group you both end up waiting needlessly. It also provides security and upper hand against opposing faction as you can bully solo players out. :)

Yes there will, that toggle crap requires cross-realm implementation something Blizzard has been very clear about not bringing to Classic. That toggle crap is a horrible idea anyway, I'm not sure I'll be playing if they do that.

After leveling to 60 multiple times on vanilla wow, and multiple private servers. I'm going for a slow, but fun approach.

dont rush 60...one of the best experiences in vanilla is the leveling...as a seasoned played of vanilla wow and private servers...i love alt leveling...i dont know why but i just love it on vanilal and BC

No leveling in Vanilla sucks just as much as it does now. All the quests are collect 20 boar asses at a 10% drop rate.

Izicial, not really, you can just skip quests that are too grindy most of the time(I got to 60 with a bunch of zones skipped entirely, and still had a ton to do). Unless you play the game just to look at numbers pop up, and skip all the quest text, then yeah, quests are rather similar in terms of mechanics. I don't see the appeal of doing that though.

Yeah also don't use stupid guides, almost all quests are easily doable if you just read the quest

I highly HIGHLY **HIGHLY** recommend using pfQuest over questie. Questie puts vague mob and item locations on your map which is nice. pfQuest puts exact spawn locations on your map and has included tooltip information like respawn times. You can also use it's database to look up the location/spawn information/etc. for any NPCs, Objects, Chests, Herbs, Ores, etc. while off quest. Questie was great back in the day. And may people still use it. However pfQuest trumps it in nearly every way imaginable, and then some.

First legit good advice saw in comments. But coders on launch will hopefully have a new updated unbugged quest helper.

Dont forget that all addon guides are basically leveling kryptonite when a new server is created (or there are lots of levelers)

We use LFG channel to talk all over the world. Easy to keep in contact as everyone levels up and meet friends

This time around I will actually NOT rush through as before. I will take my time and really do the quests. Perhaps focusing on quests I rarely or never did in Vanilla. :)

so i looked at the speed leveling videos and basicly you need like 1 - 2 day(s) to get from lv 1 - 20 :D gosh i will take weeks to 60 and i will love it xD

we already have "rush rush rush" gameplay all day long in current WoW. No need for that in Vanilla. And that's the problem with Vanilla. The people, with their "run run run run run" mentality. They will cry so hard for blizzard to basicly f*uck it all up again and make the up and coming Vanilla Servers a second modern WoW set in the old classic world. And who wants that?... I don't.

Raffels Videoblog i don’t see that happening, I have a feeling they have classic coming out and it’ll stay that way, then eventually bc will come out and it’ll stay the way it originally was, same with wrath. This is of course over the course of a few years but I do see them doing this. I’d assume they’ll stop at wrath considering that was probably the best and most liked expansion at least in my eyes. Wrath was so perfect to me. At least there’s legacy serves I’ve heard so I may go into one of those servers soon.

you're gonna have a big surprise... The old memories u have about vanila... you better forget them. Now vanila is gonna be a joke compared to back then. The knowledge will just make enourmous difference. Remember how hard was lvl 40 mounts? yea forget that. I literally had 300 gold in private server at lvl 40. Things are just easier with the info, the addons and everything. THe world is already explored... This is gonna be a race

also at 51 in AV do the quest to get that Ice Barb Spear. it will take any 2 hander user to 60

I'll usually run auto-loot, but you can turn this on so you don't need to hold the shift key by going to Esc > Interface Options > Controls > Auto Loot. This way to loot to you right click and it auto-loots for you

I'm pretty sure that 33k exp from the AV quests were TBC exp rates. I just did ~40+hrs of AV over the weekend on a pServer and they were only giving out 6-7k exp each. Still, I managed to go from 51 -> 20% away from 53 while grinding out to exalted.

5:05 advanced tip: if you play to play multiple charackters. Just creat a lvl 1 toon and run to an rested area. Whenever you feel like you wanna play on of your alts you have double exp already. Do that with all your chars and its easy going.

rested xp maxes out at 1.5 levels. So this is really a waste of time...

pfQuest love that Quest Addon

my best advise for gearing as you lvl. don't look at the armor class. if its better then what you have and you can put it on, Do it.when I lvl a warrior, I put on leather chain and plate (40). also when your not doing anything or just in a Q. get gray or white weapons of all classes and beat on weak mobs. this gets your skill up and you can us any good weapon as they drop.

in my opinion addons like vanillaguide take the fun out of the leveling experience. to each their own!

I played vanilla back in the day more than any other wow expansion to be honest I can't wait for this classic to drop. I try and recreate the leveling process now in normal wow its just way to easy and quick the zones you can't even fully clean one zone at all even without airlooms I can't wait to play low level content again and it not be mind super easy

I love these people who are fighting for vanilla that didn't play vanilla... We had atlas loot threat dmg meters and quest addons+thottbot. We weren't savages.

Man you all can whine and say keep vanilla pure, but you guys forget that addons came into existence back then as well. I remember when i heard of that first questing addon, it was awesome (though nowadays it sucks in comparison). Yes, it provides an 'advantage' over someone who doesn't use the addon, but in the end that's each players choice. Vanilla was hard enough, in every aspect, for me to accept a quality of life addon here and there.

Lol so much this. Everyone saying that making questing faster/easier ruins the experience clearly haven’t actually played vanilla, or at the very least haven’t played it since BC came out. As someone who has leveled multiple toons to 60 on private servers, I can say that reading quest text and leveling “the hard way” gets old VERY quickly. The leveling experience is fun in vanilla, but it isn’t as fun as the nostalgia warriors will lead you to believe.

Don't rush your first character. The fun comes from exploring the world as you level, learning as you go along. Alts, for sure do this :)

That only applies for someone who has never played vanila though. But most of us have lvled like.. 10+ characters in vanila, both in the official back in the days and the private servers. There's nothing to explore for most of us. So efficiency won't hurt.

One thing im missing from all guides on vanilla/classic is which buff consumables should i buy/use for leveling ? Like food, potions, scrolls etc.

Joana are actually working on a ally lvling guide that will be out in time for retail vanilla. Or atleast he says so.. (for those looking at this to update themselves for retail vanilla)

Alliance guide should be out now. But I would recommend at least trying to do it without a guide at first. Enjoy the exploration yourself. If it gets too frustrating, then sure use a guide.

Joana guides are for all classes and both factions now

What's the enemy casting bar addon you're using?

Just a note on the "World Record" to level 60. That was on the official wow servers back in the day. However people have gotten it down to 3 days on private. That's just rushing to 60. Expect it to take longer depending on what class you choose to level and actually doing all the important quests + gearing

If you start on the official blizz classic servers don’t use vanilla guide it IS a really good tool to make sure your paths are optimized and you spend least time possible just walking around. BUT at launch a TON of people will use it. so if you want to be fast on a Server with player flooded leveling zones you are better off just grinding mobs in remote locations where vanilla guide will not send anyone to.

Just to let you know, there wasn't any "World chat" or "LookingForGroup" channels in Classic WoW. They only way you could find people was in a city with trade chat, and/or in an areas with general chat. This will come as a surprise to all who didn't play back in the day, including private servers as they implemented World Chat. I personally hope Blizzard does have "world chat" or something like it, cause it will allow people lvling in areas the opportunity to look for dungeons without sacrificing lvling time going to special areas to find people or to cities to spam.

To be fair, the two companies might operate separately, but they're accountable to the same shareholders, which is most likely why the game got a lot more casual friendly after the merger, because that brings in more players and more money, not because it makes the game better. As far as addons go, I can live without them, but the standard UI is just very counter intuitive since you have to constantly glace up at the left hand corner to view your own and your enemy's health, which means you can't focus on what's going on in the fight, which is in the middle of the screen. So being able to move the health bars is a big one for me personally, but I can live without it too - it's not exactly a massive issue.

Subscriber numbers went down after Wrath, and yet their revenue went up. Microtransactions and appealing to a more casual audience did that. The merger also happened before Wrath, so they actually was an increase in subscribers after it.

Frontshreding feral druids are the fastest way 2 level post 30. If front shreding doesn't work in classic, it is bear druid with hunter in the same area speed wise. warlocks next if you find a good way to minimize your need to move, hence chain pulling yourself to everywhere you need to go, and mouseover macros (luna unit frames /lunamo macros)

i didn't know english the first time i played wow so i levled all the way to 60 killing mobs because i didn't know what the quests said and i didn't have the english to download quest addon either xd, so to get back the good old feeling of vanilla time to kill pig all day!

To level "fast" in vanilla wow you need extended knowledge of the game and good execution. Optimizing your progression through the leveling zones to minimize backtracking, picking the best leveling template and quest gear, planning what and when to buy at the auction house, knowing the best mob grinding spots, knowing how many mobs you can fight at once to be time efficient, there's countless ways to optimize the leveling. That makes it a challenging and rewarding experience. In recent mmorpgs it's totally pointless to rush the leveling because there's so much xp thrown at your face you just can't keep up with the amount of rewards you get. In vanilla wow xp and rewards matter because they are rare, death is everywhere and truly punishing you for messing things up.

Remember traveling quests that showed you the world and made you explore without having the entire world have to be streamlined so you never find a rougher patch to work through?

Especially the starting areas are so much fun and athmosphere..Elwyn, Westfall, Duskwood..just take your time..read all quests and you will feel the difference to retail! Its not a game..its a story!

The rested xp is crap unless you only game for 1-5 hours a day. if you game over 5 hours a day, much quicker just to start off from where you ended and do not spend time using the flightpath or run. ofc, use it if you already are close to an inn or a city.

What mod are you using for nameplates?

Why rush to 60? 60 servers will always exist, don't rush Take your time and enjoy the experience. Don't be a min max player, you're going to be disappointed.

Light's Hope is a pretty solid vanilla server.
