How to let tinnitus and other irritations be

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Not reacting to tinnitus or irritating people can come about with a shift in our focus. Instead of our attention being out overexposed out there on the other or on the tinnitus, we come back to our own resources and establish a focus on what is ok first. We notice how our breathing is ok, or how our feet feel firm on the floor and all that is ok inside our own skin bag. And then, from that place, we open the awareness out to the irritating tinnitus or person out there and let them be irritating! Accept their irritation. Then practice coming back to to our sense of internal wellbeing inside.
This takes practice, but the more we do it, the more we realise we have a choice, and can change channel into inner well-being mode. Water the roses and not the weeds. Water the well-being and not the stressors. It is all about focus.

Julian is right. I´ve just started a treatment for my anxiety and the first step I've bee taught is just let your symptoms be, don't try to change them, don't judge them, yes at first is difficult and even more when you have a spike, but if you let them come and be with you, they lower in intensity as a consequence. This is a crucial part of recovery, then when you have learned how to let your symptoms be you are not fueling your anxiety even more and you are in a better place to learn how to relax. My tinnitus is better. My hyper sensibility to sounds has vanished and my ears are not clogged anymore.

Hey man. I’m going through this right now.. I’ve had tinnitus many years and have had bad days.but habituated to it mainly at times it didn’t bother me. But my anxiety at the moment is off the scale and I’ve got sound sensitivity too now. I’m feeling anxiety symptoms all through the day and my attention is on my tinnitus.. it’s hard right now… hope you’re better 👍

I have tried tinnitus for 4 months. Tried mindfulness meditation, TCM, acupuncture, bowen therapy.. nothing helps to back it off. I am happy that yours is backing off & I hope I can reach that place soon coz I am spiking quite frequently especially later part of the day & it forbids me from sleeping

Thanks for your wise words Julian. Ive had mild T for years - not bad enough for it to bother me at all.....then I went through a dark time of extreme stress and grief and my T went from 1/10 to 9/10 almost in an instant. It has lessened a little over the past 5 months as I began meditation and sound therapy activities. I was also directed in your direction by DR Ben Thompson in California and I have to say how I am beginning to make sense of what you are saying, though it has not been easy....it takes determination and time . Thanks again and please continue to offer your wise advice to T sufferers!! Alan, U.K.

Yes it can be challenging changing one's mindset but hopefully what I'm saying starts to make sense and becomes commonsense after a while, especially when we look at our own experience and how this influences the ringing in your ears. Yes, this exactly. It is difficult but can be done even if you fail every once in a while. Internal tools are more important and can bring the T back into a safer space I think... you have to integrate its presence.... then again I'm a noob!

I am 18 and live in Norway, I am stressing a lot with exams and such because of my tinnitus. I got tinnitus a month ago and I struggle with focusing on school and reading to my exams. Do you have any suggestions of what I can do to help me to take the attention off the tinnitus sound when I am reading ? By the way, your videos have helped me so much, I felt so lost in the beginning, but your videos have inspired me to think positive and really try to let go. The work you are doing is extremely important. Finding someone who is that positive about the condition is rare but also so, so helpful!

+Elise Gundersen Hi Elise, do you have any idea what possible triggered the T, since I think this is very important, also to know which changes/or training might help in your case.. Maybe because of the exams stress, (are you connecting a lot of things with the exams, eg building up to much pressure) then it could have triggered this panic mode, in my opinion most important is then to first of all accept this and try to find out in meditation what exactly are the fears and issues and to allow them to express and release the stress, even the panic! this was so in my case the T stopped then finally after several weeks.. it might help a lot to notice that the T is most probably a sort of indicator that the nervous system has switched into an other mode for protection, not harmful, no further panic! but in other cases the T might got triggered physically by wrong posture or/and less regular exercise (since exercise in moderation is also releasing stress).. Good luck & recover to you! Namaste

Julian, I've had T for a couple months now and a couple days ago I started noticing everytime I would swallow and the subsequent ear pop(pressure change). I think it's always been there. It's just louder and noticeable now because I'm hyper focused on ears, noises, internally focused, etc... It's to the point where I sometimes feel anxiety building before I know I have to swallow. Can you speak to this? Thank you for what you do.

Hi Julian, thanks for an other great video, yes this is very important practising it was sort of my focus too before mine stopped, there is also this biomental training for Tinnitus from a famous German doctor which I guess it is also addressing this.. (might be bit like neuro programing since if the system after longer periods of stress, several shocks etc it can adapt a different mode, this mode was somehow useful for the duration of the stress etc to avoid further damage, could be kind of shut down I guess and all the information which was not be possible to work on once should be worked off afterwards bit by bit to remove the stress and will support the stress release). this should be practiced contineousely and with great patience and grace since to sort of reprogram the mode of the nervous system.. Namaste

I think finding things that are enjoyable and focus the mind on the body are very helpful. Not good to overdo things or force oneself into a regime. This adds stress. The way forward is to de-stress, relax, enjoy, let go....

So I've been thinking about it. For the past year I have been so stressed. First my heart was flip flopping all over the place. The I got eye floaters. Then my heart would race just from getting out of bed. Then getting dizzy right before falling asleep. Then dizzy all through the day, and now tinnitus like I have never experienced it before. My grandfather got sick 5 months ago, and I started taking care of him, even though I hardly had energy for myself. But I stepped into this role, and used my reserves. Themn 2 weeks ago my mom lost her dog. I was sad yes, but she was/is very sad. So I have been there a lot for her. And now I just heard back from a cranial sacral therapist that if my tinnitus was brought on by loud noices, that could be hard to help me with. SO! How long of not being stressed will it take.before it will calm down a bot. I am really freaking out. I am known for panic attacks and generalized anxiety attacks. So I am scared I'm going to have to contact a euthanesia clinic. :(

Hi there - I have a similar story - what caught my attention was that you said you had eye floaters and the racing heart. Me too. One in each eye. I have gotten my heart under control I think - but weird that we have the same symptoms. I was very stressed out due to a diagnosis - but that has passed. I get very tired sometimes. But overall I am really improving. I don't know what caused it. when I got it - I had just started working out hard in a very loud gym - but I don't really think that was it. I was also taking a strong medication - wouldn't mind comparing more of our stories - but would rather do it privately. If you want to contact me I have a gmail account - first part is ssorige. I didn't put it together because some of these sites block email addresses. Don't know if this is one of them or not. Contact me if you can. I'm in the US - Ohio to be exact. Thanks!

Not at all. Taking the attention off the tinnitus can be very helpful. So the sound of a fan, music, outdoor noise, waves (look on you tube for endless natural sound videos) are very good for distracting you. I believe distracting the attention off hearing completely by focussing on the body is the best way forward however, as this settles the nervous system and is likely to help the tinnitus go quieter and quieter, which is what you want.
