How to Let Go of Past Trauma_P14_A Buddhist Perspective_Forgiveness _Who Benefits?

This is the 4th strategy Gen Rigpa shares from the class entitled How to Let Go of Past Trauma: Resentment and Forgiveness. When we use methods to shift our mind from its default mode of blaming and retaliation to its opposite, the mind of patient acceptance and forgiveness, we make substantial spiritual progress. We are invited to contemplate this question, 'When we receive harm from someone else, who benefits?' Buddha taught that it's our responsibility to accept the consequences of our previous negative actions and deal with them constructively. We are neither blaming ourselves for the harm we receive, nor are we blaming others. We are blaming our past negative actions, our delusions, understanding the metaphysical truth of actions and their effects, Karma. Let's use difficult and painful moments (and memories) as opportunities to purify our previous negative actions by patiently accepting what is arising (and what has already arisen.) In this way, we begin to purify our karma and create a future for ourselves and others that is not steeped in suffering and negativity.
