Its mostly bc it feels like something is grabbing the back of there neck, and when anything grabs the back of their neck, it paralizes them, they just gotta relize that thats not the case, its also a big change.

The thinner ones cause less stress over the bulky ones. Start them out with the ones that are just rope straps and not the jacket looking ones. Easier to start them in the car, small space for them to explore. And make sure to have a carrying case for them to hide in when they get scared. It takes a lot of patience but it's not terribly hard.

When I lived with my grandparents I tried walking my cat by just simply putting her in the harness and then walking around the neighborhood with her, she did not want any part of it and frantically tried to get home mistaking a bunch of similar houses for my grandparent's house. So I just gave in, picked her up and went back to the house. My grandma later told me that a lady in the neighborhood has a cat that is the same breed as mine and thought I stole her cat- the lady also said that she was about to come outside and confront me. But then HER cat walked up behind her, thank goodness for her cat tho because Idk how I would've handled that.. my cat is my child.

My goodness I'm glad the lady's cat came. I wonder why she didn't call for the cat first before assuming you're stealing her cat. I think I would keep an eye on you and call for my cat to see if they come first. Ik not all cats are but my cat's really responsive to his name so he would of came running right away.

I’d usually make it to the bottom of the hollow before he realized I went down the hill, so he’d start meowing at the top of the hill and kept meowing every 10 or 15 feet until he saw me and then come running to me. I’d have to say something back to him when he meowed so he knew which way to go lol. Good cat.

Here is another way: 1. Let your cat get use to the harness. 2. One your cat is used to it, put the leash string on the harness and start walking around the house (do not pull the leash string). 3. If your cat will bite the leash string, grab the whole leash and leave only a centimeter of the leash string and start walk around the house. 4. Once your cat is used to that, slowly let go of the parts of the leash string without your cat noticing. 5. Let your cat get into a quiet space like the backyard with the harness only. 6. Put the leash string on the harness and start walking around. 7. Reward your cat with treats. 8. Go out to a sidewalk and walk your cat👍 This worked for me🎉🎉🎉

I did this with my cat. Surprisingly she was great with the outdoors after training her inside. I'd just put the harness on and let her figure out how to walk. And give treats when she did along with pets. Few months later she was great being outside. Would walk blocks and maybe sometimes try to pounce into someone's yard, lol.

People think _any and every_ cat can be leash/ harness trained, but they *have to have the right personality and temperament*. A shy, nervous personality won't help, if they don't trust you or have a hard time adjusting to new things. It just creates trauma for them, if you take them outside and expect them to walk like a dog🙄😒. Likewise, if your cat doesn't like it when you pick them up or hold them for long, you'll have a hard time keeping them safe outside. It seems like you recognize and respect your cat's boundaries and fears. That's the best thing to do, because too many people don't understand how to respect their pets' boundaries. The number of times I've had to pick up and hold or carry my cat outdoors, because some dog or kid comes running to her on her leash. She becomes terrified and starts to try to get away by dashing. Picking them up and carrying them for several minutes can be necessary. You have to always be on the lookout for danger and the cat's body language outdoors so they feel safe; it enhances their confidence being outdoors.

So I put the cat with harness in the backyard. Tide the leash to the picnic table. Left it alone for 5min! Came back, and the cat was gone. The harness and the leash stayed behind. LOL The cat showed up an hour later. Acting like nothing happened. I never tried that again.

Well in the first place, never leave a small animal alone, and _especially_ when they're immobile in some way. You're lucky you came back to an escaped cat rather than a corpse or bloodstain on the ground. Secondly, this is why you're supposed to have them wear the harness indoors for a few days. It's both to get them used to it, and also so you can troubleshoot without risk.

I can remember when we first got our cat and we need to remove her… anyways from the surgery we needed to give here a t-shirt she hated it so much and even did that meowl thing for the first time when we put it on, she was also super scared and constantly hid under the beds and other things

@@flarenova6286 I’ll put it this way it depends on the cat for instance my cat has been an outdoor cat since he was 14months he Still runs the neighbourhood at the age of 14 years Average life expectancy of an indoor cat in my country is 12 years and an outdoor one is 6-7 My cat has beaten both and still regularly goes out hunting

And they don’t hurt the local ecosystem If anything they help they are the pest control for the fast growing populations like rabbits and rats without then we would have devastation Like what happened in Australia they overtook the country because they had no natural predator

  • @flarenova6286

@@The_Le_Page_Workshop you do know that cats wreaking the Austrailian ecosystem was a bad thing, right? There are natural predators of pests, and those animals rely on said pests to continue existing to eat them, and if cats kill them all, thats bad. Also cats will kill local endangered species, because cats are really good hunters. And just because one cat is lucky enough to beat the life expectancy for an outdoor cat doesnt mean being an outdoor cat doesn't put said cat at risk. Theres a much higher risk of disease, injury, and risk of parasites.

Yeah, we put a harness on our cat and she laid down and refused to stand up for a few hours. Then she would only croach-walk for days. Once she didn't care anymore and walked like normal, we would try to take her out, but she would just freak out and hide in the next bush or something until we took her up with force to bring her back in. In hindsight it was pretty shitty but I was only like 8 and it was mainly my mom doing it.

Walking cats outside is very like cats indoors. They like to sit down randomly, sniff everything, rub against things, wander all over the place. Even if they don't hate the leash they don't totter around as you walk (which isn't a bad thing)
