Wow! This is impressive. I did the flare on a mushroom and on the ground when I was in my 30s, but I could only do around 3-4 rotations maximum. I could never learn circles. I am trying to lose weight now and get back into doing the flare because I think it is a wonderful way to build core muscles. I am 45 now!

Thanks a lot. I can do one full counter-clockwise circle. I can also do one clockwise circle. It seems that my problem lies with lifting up my second hand and putting it down fast enough. I have done flares on the ground in the past (up to 3-4 without touching the ground). When I could do the flares, my upper body was much stronger. However, I can't seem to get to do multiple circles. I am going to try to do bucket circles. Should that help?

@RaphaelComprone You are welcome! In gymnastics people only train circles in one direction (which ever one they first decide to do) but it is cool that you can do both ways. When I was first learning circles, I use to do a lot of bucket circles (literally like 100 or so in a practice) and I believe it helped. To address your issue about putting your second hand down, maybe think about pushing off that hand a little harder as you are first picking it up. Good luck with your training and feel free to ask other questions or post about your progress!

Hi! Right now I can do zero circles. Though I can do some 5 or six on the bucket. As a 35 year old adult learning this, what would you say is the best progression? Would it be something like this? Bucket drills --> No Bucket mushroom circle drills --> pommel horse drills from this video? Or could I spend a little time working on drills for each in a session? If not, how many circles should I be able to achieve on the bucket before moving to your no bucket mushroom circle drills on your other video?

See if you can try and work your way up to 20 circles on the mushroom. I also used to do literally hundreds of circles in a session in the bucket when I was first learning them, in addition to trying the regular mushroom. I also learned at a later age (my serious training years were from 20 to 35, and at 47 I am still having fun) and would suggest also trying to muscle a half circle and eventually full circle on the pommel horse until they become more fluent. You can also try taking off the pommels and doing them on just the leather too. Good luck!

Nice good job! You can think about flairs as being in 3 parts, going through a straddle planche in the back and then trying to bring your leg up towards your ear on each side. Work them on the mushroom first and good luck with your training

You can try and think about stretching out your body and pushing your hips out more in front of you in the front and driving your heels more in the back. You can also skew your body a little in the beginning and it can make it easier (i do circles clockwise and skew a little to the left. If you go counter clockwise skew a little to the right). Good luck
