My son's 2nd-grade teacher used to stamp SLOW, IN BOLD LETTERS, WITH A FRAWNY FACE ON HIS PAPER... She was trying to prep him for "Special Ed" and I wasn't trying to hear that!!! I know he was slow, but he wasn't stupid or dumb. Quit frankly, my son was very bright! I met with the principal, who tested him for Special Ed. The principal said, there was nothing wrong with him, but found out that the teacher was timing the students on regular classwork and sending them home with too much homework. He told her to stop and only time the students when she tested them. My son has his Master's, studying for his PhD., and is a professor at a college in Ohio. We need to be our children's advocate, and do what's best for them. Don't let anybody determine what's in the best interest of your child (especially when they are negative).
