How to knit two at once in the round: Learn to cast on two matching knits at once

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Knitting two items in the round at once can be really useful for keeping your socks, mittens, gloves, sweater sleeves and even hats the same size. Learn to cast on two projects at once in this Continental-style knitting tutorial video. Knit both items at the same time and the sizes will almost always be exactly the same when you're finished. Here I show you how to cast on, turn your work, and knit the first row for a small baby hat project. This knitting method can be used for all kinds of small knits that you want to have identical matching sizes, such as gloves, mittens, boot cuffs, and mittens.
You'll learn to make a one at a time pattern into a two at a time pattern.
1: Cast on half the stitches with your first ball of yarn.
2: Cast on all the stitches from the pattern with a second ball of yarn.
3: Slide the first set of cast on stitches and half the second set of cast on stitches to the back needle.
4: Cast on the second half of the pattern stitches with the first ball of yarn.
5: Turn your work and start knitting in the round.

    Although I am familiar with this tech but felt I needed a reminder. Thank you for your slow instructions. One thing puzzles me, how does one join the 1st stitch of round 1 with last stitch worked of colour 1, I always knit socks on dpn's but SSS is always a problem, I slip first stitch of dpn 1 onto dpn 4, slip last stitch of dpn 4 over 1st stitch onto dpn 1 and then slip the stitch back onto dpn 1, pull tog to secure then start rib. This is impossible on circulars cos I have frogg the 2 sleeeves 4 times. Any suggestions?

  • @Purlsandpixels

    @Purlsandpixels

    4 жыл бұрын

    Good question! Honestly I avoid all the tricky ways to join the first and last stitch. I just knit directly into the first stitch of round 1 to start the next round. Especially when I’m working with one kind of yarn & not doing stripes of color, not slipping the first stitch has never really impacted the final outcome for me. Hope that helps!

  • @yvonnemuse
    @yvonnemuse3 жыл бұрын

    Thank you for this video ! I think I almost have it ! I do have a question : do you join the yarn in the round in some manner or does the progression of stitches make that happen ?

  • @Purlsandpixels

    @Purlsandpixels

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi! Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for your question. I don't do anything fancy to join the round. Just working into the first stitch of the last round joins the circle, and as you continue to knit it becomes a seamless round. Technically, you'll be knitting in spirals rather than exact rounds when you follow this guide. But when you are working in one color (or one colorway of variegated yarn) it appears seamless. This method does work best when you are just using one color/colorway of yarn per item. If you go to add stripes in another color you'll be able to see that the rounds a bit off and you will need to adjust by slipping a stitch. At some point, I'll try to make a video explaining that bit more clearly, but I hope that helps a little!

  • @Purlsandpixels

    @Purlsandpixels

    In my experience, yes. Especially for knitters who have trouble keeping their gauge exact, two items knit separately can come out in slightly different sizes. For mittens, socks, and when you want things to turn out in an identical size, knitting two at once ensures your two pieces are perfectly matched. 😄
