❤❤ beautiful! I remember my late Mum knitting this pattern. She made up a lovely woollen receiving blanket as part of our eldest son's Christening ensemble. It has been passed down with the family heirloom Christening robe!

Take a look at the written instructions

Your example of 7 x 2 = 14 + 2 + 2 = 18, however, I want more stitches, 7 x 7 = 49 + 2 = 51. Your instructions aren’t using more 7s, but multiple of 2s. I’m confused.

You have to cast on multiples of 7 plus 2 (and 2 more if you want to have 2 edge stitches). So either 51 stitches without the edge stitches, or 53, with them.
