This is a very detailed step-by-step tutorial on how to knit socks toe-up. I tried to incorporate all the little choices you have along the way and how to adjust things so you get socks that fit. I also picked a toe and heel pattern that is very versatile yet easy to knit.
I created this toe-up sock knitting pattern myself, even though it is of course based on everything all the generations before me did.

One thing I really appreciate about your beginner tutorials is that you don’t just teach the pattern itself, but also skills that can be applied to any pattern, especially when it comes to adjusting patterns to your own measurements

I love that too! I am way too much of a beginner to add in all the math, so I probably will just follow a pattern as-is a few times just to get a feel for the process, but when I’m ready to level up to a higher quality sock that fits better, I know exactly where to go to learn to do that! I love his teaching style so much.

I'm really struggling. I can't make the two legs of the stitch appear when I pull down to make the double stitch. I've tried and tried ... I don't know what I'm doing wrong. 🤦🏼♀️
I am new to knitting and no matter how many tutorials I watch, I always come back to yours. They are by far the most detailed ones. I especially appreciate that you explain WHY you do the things you do, it makes it so much easier for me to understand how knitting actually works. Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into your tutorials.

I followed your instructions and knitted a sock over the weekend. I really appreciate how positive and encouraging you are. Even my non-knitter adult daughter was watching your video with me and commenting about how pleasant it was to watch. You are the best!!

It's been 30 years since I made socks, and my goodness this was so helpful!
Norman, I have been knitting socks for four years, so don’t watch too many sock knitting videos anymore, but you have become my go to Knitting resource for finding the best and neatest ways to do specific techniques so I watched this one to see if I would learn anything new. I am doing your KLL and KRL increases for the gussets in my current socks and they look beautiful. Thanks so much for all you do! Kathy
I finally finished my socks and I love love love them! This is the first pair of socks I have ever owned that actually fit me. Thank you again for explaining how to adjust for the variations in everyone's feet. =]

Thank you so much for that video - I finally get how much it is easier than I thought it would be to knit socks. I just enjoy the way you are explaining each part of it. I replay parts for putting my numbers down to be able to knit with medium, kd, or fingering. I really appreciate and enjoying your tutorials.

My first socks ever and it’s perfect! Thank you very much. You are a wonderful teacher. I have learned so much from you.
Socks,,especially toe up,,are one of my favorite things to knit~I was just thinking last night that I haven't made any in awhile~!! I'm now teaching my 9 year old grand daughter how to knit, and she's learning SO FAST~!! Her mother,,my daughter, also knits,in fact, she got me into it. Turns out,it's WONDERFUL for people with ADHD,,I find I stay focused for hours, knit EVERY day for 4 years now,and haven't gotten bored or lost interest. My daughter and grand daughter also have ADHD(surprise, surprise,,it runs in families!!) and knitting works better than any medication,,which none of us take. So,there may be 3 generations of Clarke women who have short attention spans,,but we're also 3 generations of knitters~!!🧡🧶🥢 I Love it~!!😄

Norman, you’re absolutely brilliant! Thank you so much for such comprehensive tutorials. They are easy to understand and provide so much support and insight for both beginners and knitters with some experience. I absolutely love this sock tutorial and can’t wait to try it out! 🙏🏻
Get the full pattern pdf with 12 pages here: www.patreon.com/posts/new-toe-up-sock-73669408 And make sure to comment anytime if you have a question Errata: At the end of the toe-box calculation I say that you need to cast-on 52 stitches. You always cast-on 16 stitches. What I mean is that you need 52 stitches at the end of the toebox.
Your teaching style is so helpful. Thank you for these videos. I am feeling more confident in the sock project I am planning.
Thank you so much Norman, for your wonderful detailed tutorials, all your shared precious tips, techniques and knowledge about yarns, needles, knitting both on KZread and your website. Your videos were the inspiration to bring me to the new passion in life: Knitting. Wonderful work 👏🏼🙏💖🫶

I was going ask about a knit along. So glad you doing it You are a detailed teacher, great for me Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! I started my first pair of socks, toe up, using magic loop sometime during the pandemic lockdown. When I got to the spot in pattern where I was supposed to start the gusset and heel, I became completely overwhelmed with the project and it became the bottom of my UFO pile…for three years! Thanks to this very easy to follow video, I am now finishing the cuffs and will be ready to bind off soon. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. I will have finished them thanks to your instruction. I am grateful for your time and expertise.😊

Another great video! I've never tried toe-up with a gusset. Off to dig out my magic loop sock needles.
So many little tips and tricks! Thank you!
This is a wonderful tutorial! I'm only 20 minutes in, and I've learned two new skills. I've made 3.5 socks so far, and I don't especially like the "squared pointy" toe box that you get from increasing every other row from the start. Your technique of increasing every row until you've doubled your starting stitch count makes a much nicer toe box. Weaving in the new color is a great technique as well. Thank you SO much for all your videos!
Thanks! I appreciate the time and effort that you put in your tutorials you make it very easy to learn :)
