How to keep your hair healthy and moisturized in a dry climate. There is a lot of advice out there for how to deal with humidity and reduce frizz from humidity. There is also a lot of advice for dealing with your hair during the cold dry winters. But what do you do if you live in a climate that is essentially parched all year round? Can you use humectants? How do you keep your hair moisturized and healthy without going too far and overmoisturizing? As someone who lives in a climate that is very dry year round, I share with you my best tips for keeping hair healthy and moisturized.

Another Arizonan here, this video was so helpful, clear, and concise, thank you. Funny thing is a few years ago when I was trying various gels I ended up settling on the Kinky Curly as working better, without fully understanding why. I'm trying out the Treluxe Reflex and HiDef gel and liking them so far. It's very helpful to understand the role of oil/serum as a finishing sealer.

Finally the video I was looking for. I live in Arizona and obviously my hair is constantly dry! I have high porosity hair so, living in a dry climate does not help the cause lol. Thank you so much for the info! Definitely super helpful!

Hi. Thank you for this KZread! I live in Colorado as well. I have(use to to be straight) frizzy, more coarse Long hair, mostly Grey and now wavy. I am frustrated. I seem to need moisture and protein. I've bought 4 of the products you mentioned. Hope they work.

I LOVE this video. I live in California's Central Valley which gets only 10 inches of rain in a good year but only got 5 inches this year. It's also a hot climate where 105+ temperatures are normal in the summer. And it never rains until September.

I'm in south west Idaho. It pretty much the same here. We do get quite a bit of rain in December and January however.

Hi Michelle! Commenting with request tips for wavy hair - I'm from the East Coast now living in Colorado. Back east my hair never required moisturizing products and was very wavy on Its own from the humidity. In colorado my hair is dead straight and always looks so lifeless. I've been through so many creams, moussses, leave-ins, ect and nothing seems to work. My hair is on the finer side and so a lot of creams are too heavy. I'm curious about the verb leave-in and maybe getting a better conditioner. No matter what, when I style my hair I wake up the next day and It's completely flat again. Any tips? I liked the steamer idea a lot but I'm worried that adding in a super moisturizing conditioner and a leave in and a mousse will be too heavy for me. How do you know when you need protein and when you need moisture?
Do you have any tips for those of us who live in very humid climates? I live in SW Arkansas and I steer clear of glycerin but it's very hard to find products that help control the frizz. I have coarse 3 a/b curls.

This question is basically something that could be a video all its own and will be. I’m adding it to my list! But a quick answer is to use products with hydrolyzed proteins or amino acids in them or film forming humectants. Aloe Vera and flax seed gel are two common film forming humectants. Also silicones. I know they get a bad rap but there are many types of silicones and they are not bad for your hair. A serum with oil and silicones is one of the best defenses against humidity induced frizz. I think all the Ouidad products I’ve tried and really like, have glycerin in them.
Any suggestions on glycerin-free gel to seal besides the kinky curly? Thanks!

Off the top of my head, I can think of Curls Blueberry Bliss curl control jelly, Treluxe Hi-Definition gel, and Treluxe Reflex serum (which is a gel). None have glycerin and they also have film forming proteins to help block humidity. If I think of anymore, I’ll add them here. Thank you for watching!

I've found shampoo for colored hair is more moisturizing - even though I don't color my hair.
I have to wash my hair every day and I’m about to move to Arizona. I don’t know what I’m gonna do

Maybe try using a very gentle and hydrating shampoo like the Ouidad ultra nourishing cleansing oil shampoo. It’s amazing how hydrating it is but yet cleans the scalp and hair so well. I can detangle with this shampoo, it’s so moisturizing. Or you could alternate your normal shampoo with a cleansing conditioner like Amika Nice Cream. And you’ll probably have to deep condition more often. Hope that helps! Thank you for watching!
