How to Keep a Croton Plant HAPPY: Croton Plant Care
Croton Plant Care Simplified! In this video I will explain how to help your croton go from cranky to happy. Croton care explained. The large croton, as seen in the thumbnail, is a petra croton I have had for over 3 years. This croton and I have had ups and downs, as I have moved several times in the last three years and after all this time I've finally gotten a hang of the care it needs to obtain growth and maintain its beauty.
Crotons are tropical plants native to S. India, but they are very common and sold widespread throughout the U.S. and North America.
I hope this video will help you whether you are a new or experienced plant owner.

So informative. Great video, thank you 🙏🏾 👍🏾
It seems Crotons are more likely to have a round full form if they are planted into a bigger container, in my experience. I often see them in small containers like yours, growing mostly just upward. But I think it can only get so tall before it starts leaning over. Mine is in a large (wider) pot and doing excellent for years. It grows outward and upward and has a lovely, full, bush-like shape. Other than that, I have it in bright sunlight for several hours per day in the window and only water when it gets dry. Very easy to care for!

Mine was attacked by spider mites that came through my screen. It looked totally dead. I cut it back it back to 2 inches of wooden stem. It was barren of leaves. It stayed like that for over three months. I did not give up. Watered when almost dry. Fed it once. All of a sudden one day three leaves started growing and it’s been growing ever since. Thanks for the advice. I too thought the soil you used is a better mix. I’m about to transplant a new one I recently got. It’s so beautiful but root bound. I love the Croton. Watch your pets carefully. They are poisonous. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Thank you. I want the Picasso croton. AwwI can relate. My gifted croton that nearly died two years ago was growing back and doing well then two weeks ago I saw a huge web and fallen leaves, spider mites devoured it very fast. It's on life support 😔I will do a croton update video soon.
3 жыл бұрын
@@greenmable475 Oh no, not the mites. They are so annoying and sneaky. You really won't see them until you see that webbing. When I had the mealybugs problem that was on steroids, they put several of my plants in ICU. Many of them upgraded to stable but serious condition and then full recovery. Pest or a pest! Looking forward to the update.

I just got myself a pothos and croton mixed hanging potted plant from Lowes. It’s so beautiful and lush! I live in FL. and I decided to place my plant outside on the patio. I have lots of Oak trees to help cover some of that harsh sunlight. I hope this is the ideal place to keep my plant. Sounds like it will do well outside than inside my home. I was thinking of repotting it in another hanging pot sometime. Should I do this after the winter months? Thank you for your very informative video, your plants are beautiful 😍

Hi there, thank you for watching! It is generally a good idea to bypass repotting during the winter months. However, being in Florida could be an exception. I think it will be ok if you repot them since the weather is warmer.

I had a gorgeous big Croton 'Petra' for YEARS and had no idea of what it needed. Never fertilized or did ANYTHING other than water it. It was near the sliding glass door so it was getting enough light but it was falling over. I had it tied for three or four years and finally said "I need to repot this!!!" I did that last year and it immediately started dropping leaves, until it had almost none left. I was devastated. I moved it upstairs into a room with two big windows and a bunch of T5 lights. It seems like it is putting out some new leaves but it's leggy now... I watched another video and was considering chopping and trying to reroot the stems...
Ok I have to get a plant before I watch any more of your videos...💜💜💜

@@greenmable475 you have such a great channel!! I forgot to mention in my original comment that all my plants are under plant lights on a timer (using a smart plug lol). Hardly any actual sun gets in and i have nothing south facing and a huge overhang outside the windows. But i also learned the hard way that plant lights are not created equal. (Lost some babies due to a weak cheapo light that i didn't have close enough.)

I love my crotons. I tend to over love my plants but this one is still going. I have mine outside under mostly shade but it will get some sun. I’m in zone 9b and it gets well over 110°. I will water maybe 1-2x’s a week. I tend to forget it so it may go longer without water but it has survived so far. They are easy to care for.

Hi! I love your channel and content! I have one that I’m trying to propagate from.. when it grew older the bottom leaves started to point downwards.. the top leaves are upwards like your plants, but the bottom ones are pointing downwards (not droopy type of thing). Also tried to propagate from leaves but wasn’t successful. They become yellow fast.
I have one that I bought as a tiny mini plant and put it in a glass container, and just forgot about it for a year. It now fills the whole glass container and it is looking very healthy and happy. I haven't even watered it. I honestly don't know what to do about it now, lol.

I am a new plant mom and have a croton and I'm noticing that my leaves have been falling off here and there. Not multiples but maybe one every couple of weeks or so. I do have new ones coming but I'm worried the ones falling off are from the plant being stressed. Maybe it's my soil? Or my watering? And advice?
Do you create your own homemade fertilizer? If so, what do you use? Thank you
Please tell us what humidity level you keep them under? What sunlight exposure?
Hello please tell me what kind of fertilizer for that plant I have one but I lost couple that lives in it and I don’t know why it’s all they have five leaves one in the bottom and four in the top and I don’t know what’s going on please let me know thank you
I don’t know if I have a croton, the leaves look more like long thick nooodles but similar color way
Hello I enjoy watching you but my Cooter it’s in the east window I get about to our son direct sometimes one hour but the leaves it turns at the tips dry very dry Can I do for it please and thank you
Where I work, we have a huge croton, bushy and healthy, about 4 feet tall. It’s in front of a bright window in a back room, and probably gets ignored most of the time, until someone remembers to water it. Doesn’t belong to anyone. It was probably a gift basket plant at some point. I’m thinking of taking a cutting….though they look like the type of plant that is prone to scale.
I've had mine for over 6 months in a South facing window that has filtered light due to my neighbors walnut tree. It has not dropped leaves, the color is still there but it has not produced any new leaves. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
