I have been kayaking with my collie for a few years now and it was really trial and error once I got my kayak. Its actually a pelican like the blue one, my mom has a more open one which is an ascend. I’ve tried other kayak types and brands (we actually found a rental place that was dog friendly one day when out with my friends) but both of my dog and I are most comfortable with our pelican. It’s nice to see other people enjoying this activity. I’m watching this to see other people’s tips as my mom got a new dog who is interested in the water.

Awesome. My wife and I pick up our german shepherd next month and this is one of our first plans to do with him

Love it!! He's so well behaved. My husband purchased me a Perception tandem for me and my Great Dane service dog. I've yet to go on the water with her. I'm just praying she won't pitch us overboard. She's kinda hefty.

I just covered my aft deck with neoprene for my dog to have a decent amount of traction to stay on the boat. She goes everywhere I go so I do expect it will be a good experience and she will find it enjoyable

you have a great boy there IWe had that brand life jacket. If it gets wwet frequently the stitching comes apart. But Lokey seems to be fine keeping it dry

This is awesome! I have a blue heeler who loves the water and would love this. I am looking into the tandem sit on top kayaks or the fishing sit on top kayaks. Glad to see it can be done in a single kayak! Did he try and jump out at all at fish? I'm worried about my pup trying to jump on gators as we live in FL and spot them on every kayak trip.

Hi Heather! First off thanks for watching. Loki does great every time we go kayaking, just lays there and enjoys the ride. For further proof of this, check out my video titled “puppy kayaks with dolphins”. In that video we were kayaking with Loki and two wild dolphins swam around our kayaks for hours. This didn’t bother Loki at all. Thanks again for watching!

Hi Rolando! Thanks for watching and commenting! To answer your question, I started him young like maybe a couple months old and honestly he enjoyed it from the very first day. He jumped in the kayak the first boat trip right onto my lap, he’s enjoyed the hot rides ever since. I’d say ease into it with your pup if they’re not loving it like Loki did. You’ll get there!

@@TheComebackKid He did good this weekend. It definitely helped to have him when it dropped in the 40s. He was a good warmer. Im gonna make a video soon. I had to walk around 2 rapid sections cuz i wasnt about to risk it with him. I bought a neoprine vest and put noodles on it cuz i couldnt find doggie vest. Next time it will only be for small trips

I wish I was able to simply lift my 108 lb long bodied and freaks-out-easily lab x into a kayak. I just bought my first one and we're going to have to take the long route of taking time to desensitize and get him comfortable in and around it starting in the house.

Where can I find such streams?? I long to have a kayak. I’ve had my heart set on a big Hobie... hope the name is right. -Its been two years since I’ve seen it.😃. They aren’t getting any cheaper! Ebay maybe!!? Loki is an awesome puppy! What a beauty!!!! Why did he cry when he saw your wife? Worried about her? Loki wanted to jump ship! The leash is important in case he sees a buck or a cougar or black bear 🐻

Much easier to start when they are pups. Just took my 4 month old black lab/golden retriever mix and he did fine jumped in a few times but what would you expect from a water dog

Hi catniptrips! First off thanks for watching. This trip was a little over 2 hours. Loki is resting on my Goruck GR1 backpack, I had clothes and a towel in it so it was nice and soft. He loves riding in the kayak with us!

Such a cute puppers! Wanting to take my large senior golden retriever yakking in my new 10.5 ft kayak. He loves to swim. Anyone have any tips for kayaking with a large dog that likes to swim? I don’t know how they get back in after exiting the boat into the water! Hoping this is possible because I know he’d love it if I can figure it out! Thanks.

You may want to invest in a Tandem Kayak :) I have an Old Town Otter Tandem and me and my dog (111 lbs.) Pit bull :) Plenty of room :)

Hi Travis, depends on your definition of big. My buddy Loki the german shepherd in the video weighs 100lbs and it works out great. On a side note check out my video titled “puppy kayaks with dolphins” you’ll love it. Hope u and your pup hit the high seas as well in your kayak!

Awesome video but it's not very safe to have him leashed up to the boat. I would hate for the kayak to flip and the poor pup get hurt. Maybe just keeping the leash within your reach but not connected would be a safer idea

Still could get tangled on something underwater, especially if you were to tip by submerged branches. Personally, I just keep the leash handy next to me and clip it on as we are approaching shore.

What if the dog jumps or falls off, panics and swims away from the kayak? What if kayak flips/sinks? Dogs are good swimmers but they can’t tread water for ever.
