How To Introduce Two Dogs To Each Other! | Leader of the Pack

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

In this Cesar Millan: Leader of the Pack episode, I help Daniella and Mike introduce their two dogs to each other. Harry is aggressive and dominant while the other dog, Mia, is insecure. It is important to be aware of your energy and body language.
As the Pack Leaders we must know how to use our tools to create the outcome we desire.

@Cesar Milan I really love seeing this, I'm just wondering how can I work on my scared, anxious Behavior, with my boy Sampson..hes a Colby P.B. Terrier & a American Staffordshire terrier mix..he has not been fixed nor has he ever (that I know of) been in an actual physical confrontation with any other dog , however, I now live in my son who has passed, house with his 3 Male dogs and Baxter is the "Alpha" he doesn't h like Sampson and he attacked him over Sampsons food bowl one day. I now , cannot bring myself to be with Baxter & Sampson together in the common area because EVERYTIME th er tes a growl or they get close or Baxter or Sampson come to me there's an altercation I have to be here for another couple of years and I need to feel comfortable leaving the house or even coming in from being gone and know they will not fight. Everyone says it's my fear they pick up on and that makes them fight but I didn't have thaty prior to the first altercation..is there any hope for me ? Jenny

I had this problem with my dog, and yesterday, after so many days of dealing with her barking at grass lol, I let her outside in the morning like every other morning and my friend had his dog in the back yard while he changed the oil in his truck. Not one bark or aggression, not one thing happened. It had to happen when I wasnt around and it was a surprise introduction. I am happy my dog finally has a friend after 5 years of no friends. Now Bailey is here again today and they are laying together. TEARS OF JOY!!!!

That had a fabulous life I learned so much from them ,and they unconditional love, you never know what love is until you have an animal.i miss them so much if anyone is interested in getting a dog 🐶 . Get one that matches your personality and your lifestyle, also it takes 100% commitment to taking care of that animal. And it's well worth it. I really needed this lesson Ceasar. I also need help with my 3 year old. I bought her from a back yard breeder. It was more of a rescue in my opinion. She was kept in a 5 ft by 5 ft shed for the first 5 months of her life with her 4 brothers. She had no human contact, training, discipline, love or leadershhip. They sold her to me for a much cheaper price or lord knows what they would have done with her. Probably breeding, I suspect. I have never dealt with a dog that's so afraid of humans and other dogs before. She is so sweet and wants our affection non stop. But she goes off by herself a lot. The affection need only happens if were loving on our elderly girl that's 15 years old and near her end. Bella seems to think she's Beatrix's nurse, reporting on every move she makes and I have to keep Bella locked out when I do bathing therapy, give her medicine or massage her muscles. I worry when Beatrix is gone how Bella will respond. We're not youngsters anymore but not old either but I have been thinking about going to a rescue when Beatrix passes to help Bella. Beatrix took over a year (though Bella tried hard every day to be her friend). But by then she was old and her arthritis is bad and she sleeps alot and never plays. We play with Bella. But I wonder if another dog is really what she needs that we can't give her. I would love your thoughts on this. If we do go to a shelter, I would like to get a dog between 4 and 6 years old. Closer to Bella's age. She'll be 4 April 27th, 2022. Beatrix will be 16 April 1st, 2022. Thank you

From what I've seen, shelters/rescues are filled with humanizers who hate Cesar. They complain about not having enough people, but then run off a lot of good people with ugly cliquishness, judgementalism, religiosity. In my area, Cesar appeared on state to a sold-out audience. He (his team, I'm sure) made arrangements with the local shelter to bring dogs for Cesar to work with live, without having met the dogs beforehand. A few volunteers appeared on stage with the dogs. All the dogs were adopted that night by members of the audience. You'd think that would be a wonderful thing, right? Within 12 hours, all reference to that event was scrubbed from the shelter's pages because the Cesar haters started threatening the shelter (they'd stop helping/supporting). To this very day that event didn't happen. Those dogs weren't adopted. And, those adopters don't exist. The shelter remained as toxic as it ever was (schisms, antatonism among groups). The "Humane Society" is one of the biggest culprits too. You'd think "who can argue with them? They're the epitome of everything humane, right?" In my area it's the county tasked with sheltering and disposing of unwanted animals. The Humane Society rescues the most desirable/adoptable dogs from the county, leaving the rest (hundreds!) to face whatever fate awaits them. That's ok. I would never criticize anyone for doing what they can. However, the Humane Society turns around and toots its own horn for being a "no-kill" shelter while criticizing what others do. They honestly don't see the contradiction. They go on at length about how perfect they are (implying everyone else isn't). They don't live in the same reality as everyone else. Their enthusiasm for animal welfare has more to do with self-promotion than it does for the animals. I'm aware of one area where the statutory shelter was finding homes for animals in other areas (through "transports"). That local Humane Society condemned the activity because many of those dogs were the smaller, desirable dogs which left the Humane Society with the larger, unwanted dogs. They were bitter about that. "But, dogs are finding homes!" "Doesn't matter, it leaves our organization in a worse state!" Bottom-line: I'd be careful mentioning Cesar if volunteering for any rescue/shelter. There's a lot of personal agendas involved. You'd think everyone would be there for the dogs. But, that's rarely the case. It's often more about ego, and "signalling."

We adopted a 1 year old puppy with a bite history. He has had a good behavior with us. My husband and I had 2 agreements before he came to us. No feeding at the table and no sleeping with us. ( we had a dog before) he totally agreed with enthusiasm. One week in and the dog is in our bed several discussions. Puppy spends most of his day whining for food in between meals. It makes it hard to enjoy the puppy. Do you have a class open for HUBBY? Soon? Our King bed isn’t big enough!

IMO it's _you_ who needs the training (counselling). What I mean is: If you watch the original Dog Whisperer series, you'll see (over and over) people who believe their dog needs training when it's *the person* who needs the training. (The dogs only do what they do because the person allows it, rewards the wrong behaviors, don't practice rules, boundaries & limitations, etc.). Often, people are blind to that. They just believe the dog needs training of some kind, and it has nothing to do with the person. The person's just a bystander. I think you're describing the same thing. Your husband doesn't respect you. He made a promise (to you, a co-commitment to the dog) prior to giving a home to a dog with a *life-threatening* strike against it (one or two more strikes and the dog could be put down). That's serious stuff. You treated it seriously. He lied to you because there's no consequence. (It's about as simple as that. It's just about him and his enjoyment. You're enabling that. You don't need anyone else but you to inform him of that, and apply a price tag to it.). Watch Cesar 911 season 1, episode 2 ("The Moos"). That's about the biggest jerk husband anyone could imagine. He didn't care about anyone other than himself and his enjoyment of three bichons. Everyone else is "ah, forget them. It's nothing. Who needs them? I love my dogs." Even Cesar thought he couldn't help. The husband didn't take anything seriously, and didn't care how he was affecting others.

I like the topic " If I was a dog". Something to think about. Every dog is a picture of the owner if he/she was a dog.

Harry was acting fine compared to my dog! He wasn’t acting aggressive toward them at all? My dog is 12 years old and a jack chihuahua cross. My son has got a 4 year old Staffordshire bull terrier and I would love them to be ok with each other so that when they visit they can bring him with. We have introduced them but my dog ( female) goes for him and it gets a bit scary. She is unpredictable with dogs and will charge them and be aggressive. If she behaved like Harry it would be no problem, he wasn’t aggressive at all! She would have gone for those dogs and Harry in that situation

"Watching the videos recently" sounds like the youtube videos? If so, go back to the original Dog Whisperer series. Binge watch that. Full episodes, not these shorts of newer episodes which are more entertainment oriented. The DW series was more documentary, more to the point, less rehearsed. It's what everyone knows Cesar from, but nobody goes back and watches it. If you watch the first 2-3 seasons (there are 9), twice, you'll know 90% of what there is to know. It's not a "how to" (like "how to teach your dog to sit."). It's more about how to be. It's almost always the person, not the dog. They're not being the leader. Not being assertive enough (calm assertive. People think assertive means yelling, acting angry, impatient, frustrated. It's not. It's just "make it happen."). You see it over and over. After binge-watching 3 seasons, you'll know what the next episode is about when you see the intro. It gets repetitive after awhile that way. When you start to know what he's going to do without watching the episode, then you have it (then watch it all a 2nd time, and you'll see things you didn't see the 1st time).

@@melissadeluna9139 Hopefully that's not a bewildered (?) thanks. Something else which is a lost resource: he has a 6-volume "Mastering Leadership" set of DVDs. If you binge-watch the original DW series, you have to watch a lot and pick up his philosophy over many episodes. It's something that you absorb in pieces (each "case study"). Let's say the topic is "dog lunging at other dogs." You'll see that in many episodes, and each one gives more of the picture about how that's being dealt with. There's a lot of little pieces like letting the dog lead you out the door for the walk, or using a harness instead of a slip lead, or giving too much leash on the walk (should be walking next to you), or not correcting the dog when you see the initial signs of increased focus/excitement (waiting until it's full-blown lunging, and the dog can't hear you at that level). Or, sometimes a dog has pent--up frustrated energy, needs to go for a long run to drain that, and be receptive to discipline. (Or, wear a backpack to help drain energy on the walk.). Or, the person gives affection for the wrong things. Those are things you pick up across episodes. It's not laid out like a course, at once. But, that 6-volume series is more direct. If you watched that, you'd more quickly pick up on what you're seeing in the DW series (why he does certain things). The first two volumes (People training for dogs. Becoming a pack leader) are on youtube the last time I looked. Almost always, people try to fix a problem (like lunging at other dogs/strangers on the walk), but the problem is a lack of leadership at home, in the small things. A lack of rules, boundares & limitations all the time. It's in the relationship, not the one unwanted behavior.

I forget what this clip shows, but the whole episode (leader of the pack, season 1, ep. 4,) starts with the owners who had adopted two dogs at the same time. One had been confined to a crate for years. Very insecure, needed a lot of rehabilitation. They chose the other dog (the "10") due to its calm confident energy, to help the insecure dog. Be a source of stability for that one. So, in that context, Cesar refers to this one as being a 10. To me, that's a dog who trusts and respects you to that (max) level. You never have to correct that dog. It's eager to do what you want (without much telling it what to do). Confident but not pushy. A dog you could have off leash and not worry it will get in trouble (at all, no matter what happens). No need to be at the front of the pack, or the back. A middle of the pack dog. Balanced. Medium energy level.

I've never seen any Cesar episodes (Dog Whisperer, 911) about this. There is 6-volume Mastering Leadership series, the 3rd volume is "your new dog: the first day and beyond." It's about how to introduce a dog to your home. That's the closest I've seen. Not about blindness. Dog Whisperer 4-10 (Cody, aired as 4-13) is about a blind dog. 4-17 (Angler, aired as 4-19. I think that one was blind too.). I don't think either of those involved introducing. If you google "how to introduce a puppy to a senior blind dog" you'll find some blog stuff that's more specific.
