This video shows how I reviewed Corning Fiberglass which has R8 value but it weights 11 single Door or 22 lbs double door, the Insulfoam has R4 valve and it weights 8 lbs single door or 16 lbs double door and Reflectix which is the lightest which weights only 6 lbs per 16" width per 100 ft.
The most easy is Corning R8 but it weights at least 22 lbs which my old garage door may not able to pull it up. (not much cleaning, no double size tape, no cutting of foam (messy)).
I picked the Foam board which weights about 14 lbs for my double door and it is much easier to cut and installation can last much longer than Reflectix due to insert into panel and not using double size tapes.
The Reflective is the lightest and only few pound (6 pounds) which should be fine for most old garage opener but it is very time consuming by cleaning up the garage (dirt, spider web, grease, oil from roller). Also due to the heat on garage door, the double size may not able to hold up after few years especially after hot summer and cold winter moisture.
Please test it by hanging a bottle water (8.5 lbs) to test single door or 2-3 bottle of water for double door for proof of concept because you do not want to remove it after installation due to garage opener and springs cannot handle the extra weight and you may break it and need a new motor and springs later on which turn a small project into a major one.
Please like, subscribed and comments.
Thank you so much for watching.
NOTES: Corning R8 is pretty heavy because 22 lbs (double door) is equal to additional 3 x one gallon water bottles hanging on the door.
