How to install window weatherstripping

Windows let in a lot of light, saving money on your light bill. During the winter, they can also let in a lot of cold air, raising your utility bill. Weather stripping wiz, Dave Mars, shows how weatherizing your windows can lead to lower utility bills.

if you live in the South, avoid the rubber weatherstripping. It starts to melt in the 100+ degree summer and will seal the window shut.

Thanks for your very useful tip about WARMING the ROPE CAULK before use! (3:00). Warm, the stuff works like a charm. Also, I had not heard about Zip-A-Way before. It's a removable clear weather stripping you apply with a caulking gun.

Ok, so my take away, fluff the seal around the window. I did and unflattened /respring the rubber at the bottom. Worth a shot? Yes. It worked. I don't feel cold air in the middle. I will check back in a couple weeks and I will get the removable sealant weather stripping.

Clear caulking is nice at the beginning, especially with the paintable one, and then 1-2 years down the road they collect tons of dirt, hair and everything you can think off and leaves a strip of debris that looks terrible...

When you put the removable calking along the sides of the window inside your house or use rope calking, must you remove it in the summer? How easy is it to do that?

Wait, so are you saying that the only way to seal the side of a sliding windows is to glue it shut? Doesn't that defeat the whole point of the windows? Why don't we just have swinging windows like the rest of the world...
