Killer shock upgrades!!!👍
I haven't dove into the Mini Crawlers yet.. I think I am one of a very few who hasn't .. lol I am still loving the 6th scale beasts. lol Nice work Troy. THanks for sharing

I am not a big fan of them, honestly. The world is really big compared to their size. For what most of your crawling is, I believe you are better off with the 1/6
As with the trx4 I tried loads of different shocks and am back to stock, all be it I have tuned them and they are silky smooth. The best shocks by far. So when I get my mini, I'll tuneing the stock shocks the same.

Same, here. For the price, I can't say it was the best initial upgrade I could have made. Could be wrong but I think they are the same as the stock plastic shocks except for the body material, and they do sell the aluminum shock bodies separately as well. I opened up the stock shocks after I had them out and some were a bit low on oil so checking them is a good idea.

Very interesting results! Thanks for saving me the frustration! Do you think the preference with how you setup your shocks (half out when inserting bladder) is playing role? If it’s trying to push them back out to that position it may be fighting the ability to go all the way in as the stocks did. Just a thought.

I really don't think so. The instructions suggested building them full extended, which would make it even worse in this theory.

Thanks for confirming it wasn't a fluke!
I went the less expensive route and just bought the grey aluminum shock bodies. I went with 25 wt oil and stiffer springs in the rear. I also used green slime on the shock o-rings during assembly. So far I am happy with the performance of this setup.

I’m thinking that a lot of these accessories are mainly to be able to replace plastic with aluminum for people who prefer metal or if you want a specific color for aesthetics. Honestly, I don’t know how much of a performance difference any of them will make (driveshafts, steering parts, etc) with the exception of parts designed to add weight. Even so, I have to restrain myself from buying them all! I see that Traxxes now shows various brass weighted accessories on their website for steering and axle covers to add more weight too now.

@@Elisplushies360woodierc I’m noticing that all 4 of my original plastic shocks are leaking suspension oil out the bottom onto the attachment bolt. Can you tell if the aluminum ones are leaking? If not, that may be a benefit of having the aluminum ones. Since they only hold a tiny bit of oil, I’m guessing it will be dry in no time.
Well, you essentially made the upgrade shocks shorter by installing them the way you did by setting the shock shaft half way when sealing the cap. Wouldn't that make you lose a little flex?
@RoadsideRC
Жыл бұрын
Nope! That still allows full travel of the shock, but makes it want to come back to that spot as a resting location. Basically, how you do that helps set the "neutral" spot. The shock still has full articulation.
@TheRCBuildersPost

@@RoadsideRC Hmm. Maybe they are just overall shorter shocks than the stock ones? I don't know, that's weird how you lost flex lol. I was excited for this release but wish I would've waited before I bought it. None of the parts will be available until January. I should've bought the UTB18. I could've used a Holmes 380 and ESC, 1.55 beadlocks, class 0 tires, and have fun until the parts release. Instead, I'm stuck with this thing lol.
The stock shocks are impressive to begin with let’s not forget that. Best RTR shocks of its class. I guess these are just for color and possibly more weight?

I noticed the body roll disappeared when I upgraded my shocks. Now that could be just because I filled these shocks with more shock oil than the stock ones had….
It's unfortunate that these "upgrades" are so expensive with next no improvements.. unless the seals inside are some how better..? I've had my trx4m for a few weeks now and I'm experiencing some pretty leaky shocks, all 4.

@@RoadsideRC Thanks keep up the great videos man hopefully they do have a better seal so it's makes for a better purchase.. I'm just surprised mine have started to leak so soon. Also that I'm not seeing any other videos on anyone else having this issue. Especially when I cant find any rebuild kits anywhere locally. I've taken them apart and they all look fine, even replaced shock oil with a heavier weight hoping it wouldn't leak as much but it lasted about a week.. keep us posted on any leaks from the upgraded shocks please! Greatly appreciated 👍👍

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with leaky shocks. The fronts seem fine but the rears definitely leak. Opened them up and they were about half full where as the fronts were still full. If the seal is in fact better on the upgrades then it would be a bit more worth while.

@@RoadsideRC Thank you so much!
Doesn’t look like you did the shock oil correctly. When you’ve added the oil and insured any bubbles are gone, before putting the neoprene bladder on, you should have had the shock rod fully extended downwards instead of halfway extended downwards like you did. I believe you’re supposed to insure there’s almost a full cylinder of oil to the tip top, then but the bladder(s) on. Excess oil will spill out the edge of the bladder. You then put your shock cap. Before 100% tightening that shock cap, push the rod up ever so slightly to see if you have any air that can be pushed out. If no air expels (only oil appears to come out), you know there’s no air in the shock. You can then screw the cap tight and you’re golden.

We have clearly been taught how to assemble shocks differently! You are correct that the instructions for these shocks suggested they should be fully extended when assembled. BUT - turns out where you have the shock extended is actually a tuning tool when assembling shocks. Where you leave the extension works as a pre-load or "resting" location for the shock. If you assemble some truly high-end shocks, you can really tell the difference.
@JayJacksRC
Жыл бұрын
I actually tried filling and closing it up which totally extended and filled full of oil caused constant leaking oil wouldn’t last a week before shocks would seem completely dead I actually called traxxas support and explained the situation the guy told me to only extend the shock out about 5-6mm he explained that these small shocks just aren’t designed for that much pressure in turn causes the constant leaking so instead of doing the 20wt shock oil I am now going to try doing them like traxxas support explained I will probably do about half way extended and I am trying out 40wt shock oil which is what the traxxas support fella said he uses 40wt in his Trx4m but thanks for the info very helpful all around and great conversation in comments!
I should have watched this before I went and bought the exact same shocks. Kinda disappointed about my purchase of the traxxas performance shocks.

@@Elisplushies360woodierc Yes… you’ll be pumping a nice chunk of money into this tiny truck just to get to the base performance and traversal level of a base-model TRX4 guaranteed. It’s too small! A standard sized rock will send this little truck tumbling whereas your typical 1/10 scale would scale it with ease. It’s cool that guys like Roadside RC does our testing for us to let us decide. @@gaffle-411 I think the whole point of this size is that it’s not designed to climb the size of rocks that a 1:10 can and isn’t meant to operated on the same level terrain. Since it’s roughly half the sized, that means the terrain should also be roughly half size.
