I put in a 24" linear drain at front center of my shower. It had stainless cover and tray with a raised ledge for the cover to sit on. I found the tray and cover both needed cleaning - but not hair catching on cover legs like yours and no tile edge staining since the grate was stainless and sat on a ledge. For me, the stainless grate more appealing to get clean and so also less maintenance.

Great video, as always. I have a curbed shower and want to install a linear drain. Since the existing drain is in the center, can I install the linear drain in the center as well?

Hi there ! Yes you sure can! The Kerdi line can be installed in the center of the shower. You might have to trim or extend your shower tray depending on the dimension of the shower and the exact placement of your drain. I would like to use your Kerdi line drain, but I'd like to build my own mud pan and not the Schluter pan. Is this possible? Also, can I water proof my custom mud pan and seal it to the drain using Ditra? Or do I need to use Kerdi only?

I have installed about 4 kerdi showers. This is the only drain i have had fail. The channel body separated from the integrated waterproofing. Ruined the ceiling below. Now I get to rip it all apart and redo the bathroom and the adjacent ceiling. U might want to go back to r&d on this drain. I am a kerdi fan and this is your only product I have ever had a problem with.

My drain is only 1-14” oc from the wall? I would prefer not to move it if possible! Any recommendations?

Schluter products are overrated and overpriced. Also followed mixture procedure of their All set cement and found out that the wall membrane did not adhere to the mold resistant drywall consistently. I couldn't take a chance expecting this membrane to support wall tiles. Schluter warranty is only on paper. They squirm out of honoring their warranty by finding excuses. All contractors with years of experience I spoke to stay away from Schluter products.

Instead of bashing a system why not admit your shortcomings. Clearly you didn’t mix or install the membrane correctly or it would have adhered correctly. While it’s not rocket science the devil is in the details. The so called”contractors” who advised against using it are ill informed at the least. Wouldn’t be surprised if they all run around painting red guard on everything which is truly a worthless product.

Absolute horrible product. The biggest leak prevention is the connection to the drain. In the no access installation with the drain. The plumber or tile setter cannot confirm if the connection is 100% sealed. It can pass a water test but after time it may fail. Its great to market a "waterproofing system" but if the main component which is the drain is overlooked this whole system is worthless. Plumbers and Tile Setters use this piece of junk with caution.
