    With your excellent video and box instructions, my chlorinator is up and running within half an hour. I also insulated my black hoses with insulation tubing since Florida’s heat, humidity and wild animals can take a toll on those tubes. Thank you.

    In line connector was inverted with the back flow valve in your video. Back flow valve goes in « out » and the other connector goes in the « in ».

    As is way too often the case, the instructions that came with the unit were horrible. I found your video, watched it three or four times to make sure that I had everything right, and went ahead and did the install. Work perfectly. Many thanks!

    This. The check valve and Inlet assembly are not shown properly at all. They even have the same damn reference letters which makes no sense. I have 2 220Ds written and no CV, but they are clearly different. Photo is garbage quality too.

    Just wanted to say how absolutely wonderful it was to happen upon this video of how to install the Haward CL220. I was in a hurry at the time and found your instructions quite thorough and to the point. It wasn't full of unnecessary verbiages or shots of you. I'm sure you're a nice looking man but all I needed at that moment was exactly what you delivered, instructions on how to install my new chlorinator. Great job, excellent!

    Your setup looks SO MUCH like the one I bought with my house, I thought this was my pump! I see where the video was recorded in 2011. It's 2020 now and, Hayward must have received a lot of gripes about IN and OUT because they are clearly embossed on each port. That was why I checked this video because, I didn't want to blindly trust the previous installation and got confused about IN and OUT. Obviously, while installing it, I did blindly trust and don't recommend it. Great video. Thank you. To be clear the INPUT is the one with the dial over it. The OUTPUT is the "back" of the unit.

    This was helpful. I was trying to figure out which of these small black pvc hoses went to the pipe before the filter and which one goes to the pipe after the filter and heater. This video answered my question.

    You say to screw the check valve on to the inlet which is incorrect however you do install the check valve on the outlet In the video just to let people know that a check valve on the front inlet will not let water through It must be installed on the outlet

    One precaution/deviation from the Hayward installation instructions is to put a small in-line filter ahead of the chlorine feeder, like the ones they sell at Home Depot for drip irrigation systems. Since the feed water to the chlorine feeder is raw (unfiltered, because the tap is ahead of the main filter) from the pump, waterborne debris can plug up the narrow passages in the CL220.

    It is recommended after the filter, not sure exactly why, but there is also usually a pre-filter in the pump that should prevent large particulate

    Thank you for this video enough though it is from 2011. It is still relevant. I purchase an automatic cholorinator last week and the direction alone just wasn't enough for me to put it together and get it installed. Your video was exactly what needed to get the job done. I am also glad you advised to also read the instructions because their was one deviation in the instuctions. My instructions require the Check Valve to be threaded into the outlet port. So everyone that follows me please read the instructions and use the video to help you visualize the instulation.

    We just replaced our 220 w/brand new one as we weren't getting a good chlorine reading after it ran for several days. We installed new one yesterday, but now the new one isn't giving enough of a reading after 24 hrs running on full. Will check to see if wrong check value is in the inlet port. Your video reminded me that we had check valves reversed when the first 220 was installed.The instructions could be better; maybe big bold print re which check value goes where! Tiny, but impt detail! Tks!

    Thanks for the video... just wanted to check with you.. I just moved into a home with a pool, and i'm a noob. My pool isn't getting any chlorine. The water inside keeps dropping to nothing, and dries out. I believe when i first filled it, it was full of water. Ever since, I hired someone to open the pool and they replaced the pump. I wonder if I might be leaking water, or perhaps the intake is clogged with the tape, or other material.

    most filter systems are on a timer. the chlorinator will add chlorine whenever the filter is on. it has a dial on it that will control how much chlorine it releases...you have to monitor your chlorine levels and adjust the dial accordingly.

    lol! my hubby insists install is correct so now wonder if new chlorine is not so great; we order from same pool co each year (online) but they changed their supplier to Blue Wave. Same 3" tri-chor pucks but I've heard that not all pucks are the same. These dissolved in 3 days (6 pucks) w/chlorinator at full. But still no big reading.Pale yellow reading. But 2 ppm after 1 min. Dip sticks say same. Just not sure what's up this year. (all other readings are good)

    Replaced feeder. New one worked well at first, but reading went from 2 ppm to 0 in a few days with dial set to #4 where we always had old one to maintain a 1ppm reading. Today no chlorine reading! Checked feeder & it had plenty of partly dissolved pucks. Turned feeder dial back up to "full". As I turned the dial, there was a loud "swoosh" & chlorine is entering the pool again. Seem to be clogging issue, so clogs at will. Hayward has NO phone # so emailed them. Using 3" Blue Wave Tri-chlor. Help!

    It is my understanding that the pump is what forces the water through the chlorinator. That being said, it would have to be installed after the pump to force water through the chlorinator. Installation before the pump would, IMHO, render the unit useless, as there would be zero flow (or back flow).

    Is this system practical for an inground spa? Since it has a 2 HP pump and a huge filter we only need to run it for about 1/2 hour a day but it will run much longer when being used. Most days 1/2 hour but some days 2 or 3 hours.

  • @soak000

    @soak000

    9 жыл бұрын

    Actually, I think I found the solution as mine seems to be working much better now. The tablets are dissolving and I have proper chlorine level - which is possible only if it is working properly. Check your inlet and outlet plugs on the chlorinator. The plug that has the little ball inside needs to go on the outlet side. That is so that the chlorinator can push the water out as it gets filled but not let water come back in. I think when I had it on the inlet side, some water made it into the chlorinator but not enough to dissolve and push it out the other side. I am also keeping about 6 tablets at a time and I have the level set to one or two notches towards high, from the middle. Hope it helps.

    Depending. Installing Inline instead of offline affects the efficiency of your pump and also slows the flow rate on your pool which is important especially if you have a heater.

  • @todaywelearned

    that's very possible. funny story, this year when leslies came to open my pool, there were some leaks in the plumbing (not where i drilled, around the joints) so they replaced all of it...and when they re-installed that chlorinator they did it backwards! i couldn't figure out why i had no chlorine in the pool for like a week.

    hi i think this might be a silly question. i don't have the pool yet just waiting for the permit. i don't have the chlorinator on the package which i think we are going to add chlorine manually through those floating thing on the water. my neighbor said his pool does not need any chemical..i don't really understand i assume he has the auto feeder...so if you have the auto chlorinator does it mean your pool will adjust its chemical automatically and the feeder will dispense chlorine when needed? it does not need any testing of the water?

  • @Cotronixco

    @Cotronixco

    No. It is not self-regulating. Test your chemicals daily and adjust the knob as needed. Refill every few weeks.

  • @adventistlondon

    @adventistlondon

    You need to understand that the auto chlorinator doesn't deteriorate your liner as fast as the floating thin in the water. Auto chlorinator ads life to your liner. Chlorine is harsh in concentrated form on the liner.

    There is only one Check Valve and it must be on the correct side. Read the documenting provided. The Check Valve has a dot on it and will make a clicking sound when shaken. The Check Valve is installed on the Inlet side of the Chlorinator. That is the side with the control knob.
