How to install the convertible top on the Austin Healey Sprite MK1, part 1. Bugeye build episode 134

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I get started on installing the soft top, or hood, on the Frogeye Sprite. It was a little nerve wracking cutting that first hole in the brand new top!

Just realized I spelled my e-mail address incorrectly in the video. It should read econoboxgarage@gmail.com!!

Only a "little nerve-wracking" putting the holes in that top? I'm sure I could hear relief in your voice when it fit perfectly! I love the stop-motion outro!

Thanks Trevor. The stop motion bit was made by my eldest grand-daughters, the frog by a daughter and the car by me!

Nice work Ian. My 70 Midget will need a top in due course, and your demonstration is very helpful. When I put the tonneau on during the winter I had to heat the cover to enable the material to stretch to reach the anchor points. So be aware of this possibility if you play with the top during the winter. Love the series!

The great build continues. Just a pedantic point - 3/8" is equivalent to 10mm not 8mm as you suggest. if and when Canada converts to the metric system you won't look back. Once past the learning curve which is very easy you get to realise just how much better it is.

Thank you. Canada is mostly metric! Speed, temperature, commercial and industrial construction are all metric. The anomaly is single family residential... most of that is still imperial! When submitting house plans for permits the construction drawings are imperial but the site plans are metric! As someone once said, "metric is inching its way in" :)

About 3/4 of the way through the video, I sensed that you were realizing what a bear it is to get a soft top on a Bugeye, especially a new one that hasn’t yet been stretched. But good job! Where did you get the soft top? I was surprised that the Lift-the-DOT plates weren’t pre-installed. Do you know if all new tops are that way?

Top came from Prestige Autotrim Products... there's a link in the description. I believe that most new tops come without the hardware installed.
