Hey Jack, this is great thank you! Just one question, what did you use as the base , as know you mentioned sub base? Is that the equivalent to hardcore? I also saw you had some sand on the base of the planter, is that right? Thank you 😊

Did you need to screw from outside as well as inside using the posts? You could have had a bed without visible screws?

Hi Jack, I am planning to build my own sleepers too and have seen a variety of them for sale. My plan is to stain the sleepers in anthracite grey to match my fence panels however the beds are going on top of a block paved area, do I still need to apply the bitumen paint? I was also planning on adding an internal dpm to keep the soil away from the wood. Should there be some holes in the bottom membrane for drainage? What sleepers would you recommend? Height wise - what is the standard 2 rows or 3? These are going along the side fence with some seating between each bed. Cheers and GOD BLESS for sharing your knowledge, it is appreciated.

You will always get moisture if the bed is filled with soil! I would advise to defiantly paint them! Height is down to preference we usually install a height of 2/3 but the possibilities are endless!!

Do you recommend the black jack DPM paint over the regular black bitumen paint? I want to Waterproof the inside of my sleeper raised bed but I can't see anywhere on the tin that says to use on timber for waterproofing

Hi, that was a great video , I only wish I seen this before I let the scammers in my garden , they were supposed to have made me sleeper beds but they are rubbish and put straight on the mud and no internal post, they kept asking for more money yet all work was not completed and when i said i wasn't happy with their they decided that they would leave me high and dry ,so now my garden looks like a building site, it it ain't bad enough I'm also have disabilities, and the plants I have I can't even reach to water. Not sure where you are based as I'm in Hampshire, but I need to get some written assessments of work and try and pursue the poor workmanship through a court as I can see you done a brilliant job, I was wondering if that by any chance is something you could or would be able to do. Kind regards Marie

It creates stability; there are ways doing it with out however the sleepers won’t last as long. Get your self an auger it makes the holes a doddle.
