You can get a sim card stick doughhickey.

I can't believe they still do this but really cool. I remember 10-12 years ago when we had antennas hanging out the side of laptops. This girl in one of my business classes had one from Verizon. It looked so sloppy and is probably why I never got into using one.

Nope. He is right, it is Mini (not "standard"). The actual hierarchy is :- Full-Size sim (Obsolete now - size of a credit card) Mini Micro Nano

Hey! Question 1: When a SIM is used in a Windows laptop (at least your Latitude), does the carrier treat it just like any unlocked phone (android/ iPhone) or consider data used as hotspot data. In other words, does Windows/ SIM module declare itself as a non-phone device to carrier triggering count against hotspot allowance. My plan advertises unlimited high speed (4/5G) data usage when used in phone plus 30 GB of hotspot every month. I bought a 4G usb dongle/wifi router which works fine except it triggers my usage of hotspot balance. Question 2: Can Windows natively handle calls and texts? I wish there were laws in place that would force manufacturers and carriers to treat laptops and tablets like any other mobile device. A lot of people could just ditch their "phones" as their PC/ Mac would be a phone itself.

Normally what I’ve done in the past is contact the computer manufacturer and ask to speak to the parts department. They normally have a compatible part that will fit in the slot. In my situation I contacted Dell parts department and ask for a WWAN card for my specific model number. I’m sure there’s generic ones that will fit in any motherboard for a laptop but may be a good idea to start with the manufactures parts department. Hope that helps

Hotspot is definitely the easiest way to go. sim card directly and laptop has much more reliable benefits for constantly being connected and faster and more throughput. in large corporate environments you’ll see more Sim cards and laptops, on the consumer side you’ll see more mobile hotspot. hope that helps

This is where I'm at. The laptop didn't have the WWAN module, so I bought one because it did have the slot. Inside the SIM card slot was just a plastic placeholder. Now I need a real SIM card tray for this! Off to ebay! lets hope I find the right one!

You may have to remove the back of the laptop and verify you have a WWAN card installed. A lot of laptops will have the Sim slot but without this card you won’t see the cellular button. It could also be a driver update that’s needed

Me too yes, bars show 1 or 2 (out of 5) but it's lightning fast for me at those bars on LTE Advanced! 😁

Sometimes they have the Sim slot but you need to open up the back of the laptop and look if there’s a WWAN card inside. Typically you can buy this card for about $40 USD and just put it on the board. Then the sim slot will work. hope that helps

If you need drivers either dell support web site or there's a cool tool call 3dpNet which will scan you computer for missing network drivers and install one. Hope that helps!

That’s a very big question. I respect that question. Not all laptops have a slot. When you visit other countries you have to subscribe to the mobile network that’s in that country. Typically it’s best to get a Sim card from that country once you arrive and put it into your laptop. As opposed to bringing your previous countries Sim card to that new country. This is the most cost efficient option. Hope that helps

Try a free app called 3dpNet which helps Detect which network drivers are missing and install them. There is also the potential that your laptop has the Sim card slot however doesn’t have the WWAN card for the slot. Hope that helps

3dpnet software download. Update drivers from support.dell.com Open up laptop and check you have a WWAN card attached to sim slot

You just have to order a WWAN card from dell or 3rd party, put it in there, connect those 2 Delicate cables. And then you’re good to go

I'm not sure specific models may be different. If your laptop has a Sim slot you should be good so long as inside the mother board there a wwan card installed. Hope that helps
