I would like to go vertically since I don't have to move the platform I am standing on so much... Is VERTICAL install OK too?

+Dennis Adams Yes, it works the same. You can run horizontal or vertical with the rafters. You may want to look at our 26" product which is specifically made to run up/down rafters or trusses: www.atticfoil.com/index.php/products/26-wide-for-trusses/

In a 35 year old home , I installed 3000 sf with no help about ten years ago. I have gable and hip roof with a finished room over the garage that creates a small gable attic. It was a challenge that I enjoyed overcoming. I recommend an electric stapler for such big areas and do the job in the winter months . Long pieces were cut outside and rolled up to carry in the attic. All scraps were saved so they could be used in some way. It is a good chance to inspect every sqare inch of an older home's attic space/utilities. The home energy costs have decreased!

@@BlueonGoldZ That it really hard to pin down. Every home is different. Older less efficient homes tend to see better savings. Also, one story ranch style homes see more savings than tall two story homes with lots of walls and windows. Basically, www.AtticFoil.com reduces heat coming into the home through the ROOF. So, the more roof you have proportionally to walls the better the results/savings. Call is if you want to discuss further. Also, the more sun you get in your area, the better the results.

I like how you went into detail about leaving a gap at the bottom, just above the insulation) for air to get pulled into the attic (which probably helps keep some water heater pilot lights alive).

Great installation video! I really like the flap at the bottom for additional blown insulation later!

Thanks for the videos - they explain the product and the installation well. I'll pick up a roll tomorrow and see how it goes.

I wish there were instructions also on how to remove old insulation and put in new insulation so this can be a complete DIY project along with the radiant barrier.

It's really not too difficult. If batts, pull them out, vacuum clean, seal ceiling and then install new. If blown in, scoop and bag or vacuum, seal ceiling and reinstall. Install www.AtticFoil.com before installing new to keep from walking over it.

Adding this to large shed conversion to a room in Nevada. Though we do get cold winters, heats the main concern. No insulation in yet, building has no soffits but each end of the attic has a gable vents. Do you recommend just stapling on rafters as described or not allowing space at bottom for airflow?

Would a attic exhaust fan in combination with the foil have a better result? I was thinking of installing a 2 600cfm thermostat controlled fans on one side and intake vents on the other side with atticFoil.

Not a big fan of attic fans: soundcloud.com/atticfoil/do-not-like-attic-fans/s-rY51Mpk19Ci It's like if you park your car in the shade you really don't need to crack your windows. Same thing with stapling up www.AtticFoil.com You don't need as much ventilation.

I'm confused, put it on the rafters/ceiling? Or on the floor over the insulation?

There are different install methods for different goals. Staple up is usually for hot climates. Over insulation is usually for cold or mixed climates: www.atticfoil.com/index.php/installation/best-install-method/

would painting the roof with that white reflective paint cause any issues with the radiant barrier?

No, no issues. A light color or reflective roof may not reach the same maximum temperature as a darker roof. But, a radiant barrier will work exactly the same no matter what the color or type of roof.

Do I need to lift original insulation n silicone the the wall tops from below m were the light fixtures are

@@ericwilson2186 You need to seal all holes in your attic ceiling. AtticFoil is not intended to be an air barrier for air coming out of the home.
