Very professional, Loved it. You could also point out that if you just need some low amp power at the rear of the truck you could build an adaptor plug to access the auxiliary power and ground terminals in your pickup trailer plug.

Very nice, but why does almost every video have the most irritating back ground music.

I was starting a project just like this one, when I ran across your video, it helped me from making some rookie mistakes. I do not need 3 12v accessories and was considering replacing one of the 12v connectors with an Anderson connector, this way I could feed solar back into my mpt charge controller to recharge my battery. I plan, to install a Lithium Ion battery. This would require a separate run, I think its safer to keep my bed accessories separate from the rest of the truck. I am also going to install a 700 watt inverter behind the rear seat, but will wire it for 1000 or 2000 depending on costs. So the plan would be charge the secondary battery while its being used for the fridge and accessories, during the day, live off the battery at night, then rinse and repeat.

Hi, could you do a similar set up but incorporating a second battery? I have been looking to doing this to my truck but I would like a dual battery set up. I also do not know what parts are available in the US as all the videos I find are from Australia.

So doing this, will it be able to run a 1.5 hp 120v air compressor for a fairly long time? I would love to do this but I just want to make sure it will run good

Is there a risk if the buss bar gets wet? I have seen on some RV forums that it isn’t recommended however your install method looks great with the ability to connect higher amperage at the buss.

what is the wire size gauge you are using to connect the outlets within the panel?

after install what kind of sag do you encounter at the power point in the bed vs at the battery itself?, i'm thinking about doing something similar in my F150 and need to figure out what size wire i need to use for my actual install to the bus bars in the bed itself

Professional electrician here. In order to future proof your build I would personally (And I did in my truck) Run 4AWG Oxygen Free Copper wire to the Bus Bar. Then I would use 10AWG to/from the 12V plug. Just get a spade connector kit and you'll be Gucci. 1/2" loom will work for the single 4AWG and the 2 10AWG as well!

@@TRalstoon would this be able to run a normal compressor? Or do I have to buy a special 12v compressor

That's pretty standard wattage, like a cigarette lighter plug. You can just buy an adapter that plugs into your trailer hitch plug

So this is suggesting to run a 12v fridge off the starter battery? What happens when you park and stop driving but still want cold drinks? Wouldn’t it be better to run a second battery with a DC-DC charger to power all the 12v accessories?

My dometic fridge has a safety shutdown and notification if the voltage gets to low. I think this would be good for the commute to and from wherever you going but not long term.

You could let the truck idle. You get about 5 hours of run time per gallon of fuel

Deep cycle battery. We used an Optima Yellowtop for our main battery in our Jeep Wrangler for 3.5 years and never had a single issue running the 12V fridge overnight for tons of camping trips.

Careful with what power cable you pick and make sure you DO NOT USE CCA wire. That’s copper clad aluminum and is just copper coated not actual copper. Make sure to USE OFC COPPER WIRE that’s oxygen free copper that will be pure copper wire and is a better conductor.

Seems silly.. There should be a way to tap into the 12v already at the back and already fused. Like the trailer hitch. If you want high power like a compressor, it would be better to install the compressor next to the battery. So much wasted truck bed space.
