How to install plastic pop rivets without expensive riveter tool
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This method of installing plastic pop rivets uses simple inexpensive tools. Additionally, this method allows you to get into tight spaces instead of removing a wheel to gain access with conventional riveter tools.

You’re brilliant, saved me driving all over creation trying to find the proper rivet gun. Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for this video. COVID-19 in Chicago has me needing to stay in the house and I wanted to install my mudflaps on my vehicle. Directions say "rivet gun required" .....not anymore! Thank you!!!
Thanks so much for the 2 videos on these rivets, just saved me time and money on a 22 Durango hitch install. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤘🤘🤘
That exactly what I needed to finish a project on my jeep. good to know I can do this with tools already in my possession.

Just exactly my case today !
Thanks for the video!!! Saved me a trip to the auto parts store!
Great video! Thanks for putting this up.
Thank you. Wheel well on an X6 and the rivets broke because it was jarred. You really helped.
You saved me time and money. Thank you.
Great job and great video without all the extra. I have 3 rivets and I cannot afford to learn with one of them. Thanks for the vid
Brilliant!! This is exactly what I needed!
You are the man brother! I had the same problem trying to install OEM splash guards on my Ram 1500 and there was no way to get a river tool on the river without taking off the back tires. A pliers and a piece of metal as you described did the trick. I used my dremel to take off the rough edge of the plast tip and voila! Thanks for making your video now I can take that expensive river tool back.

Glad I could help
This vid was very helpful - thanks for posting. Added tip - Because I did not have a lot of clearance between the tire and fender I used a 2x4 and a small torx bit with the standard hex shank for a screwdriver. The bit was long enough to pop the center of the rivet, but short enough not to pop it out the back. They all came out in one piece :)

Great tip!
Thank you for posting this. I wish I would have seen this before I was uninstalling mine. I would have tackled that differently. But now I know how to reinstall the new ones
Thank you for the demo. It made my job a lot easier 👍
Hi This is a really good video, nice job sir, great idea if you dont have any rivet gun! just as long as the temperature is really warm as it give the rivet shaft tolerence to bend /wiggle easily without snapping off to soon at the predetermined place actually cut in the rivet shank itself as it is designed to do.As for the pop rivet guns (with assorted tips),, you use for steel rivets. It can be used here also, just unscrew the 1/4 tip out off the gun and use just the gun itself without any tip, it is plastic rivets so it wont damage the gun. on some guns you can relieve the tension of the tension spring by turning the tension nut counter clockwise as these plastic shafts not need all this tension to "bite " into the plastic shank..the thing is,Just make sure you keep the gun (90 degrees) with the work you are doin .Dont wiggle the gun or it will prematurely break of the plastic shank and it will be a rivet ruined.i did this same job on my bmw splashguard install with a regular Gun that i always used for steel rivets and all went excellent, ty sir
Great demo,thanks!
You have lighten up my world. Thank you a ton. God bless you 🙏

Awesome vid thank brotha
Great video. I will be removing them soon on my BMW f34 as I want to fit mud flaps. Can I ask what size they are? 6mm, 8mm?
This is so freaking awesome. But easier to buy a tool.
Hi Great Video! I'd purchased the Harbor Freight 90pc Pom Rivet Assortment that said *Store* *House* as the Chinese company. The package had no riveter tool inside, so I actually thought I was supposed to use my existing *Arrow* *Pop* *Rivet* *Tool* , with a large diameter attachment thingy screwed in there to handle these plastic Harbor Freight rivets. Any thoughts? Haven't done a *SuperHero* *Costume* Job yet that might require some rivets yet, but Halloween Season is now upon us.
great DIY trips
What are the size of the rivets that you use in your car and what local store can I buy them?
The cheap plastic rivet tools all suck pretty hard, fall apart and get jammed easily, so this hee haw engineering technique is a great alternative to spending $60 for the real pro right angle rivet gun.

Lets see em do it now with Steel lol
thank you for this i just changed fog lights on my 2010 challenger and im like WTF? you cant re-use these? fuk!
much appreciated for video.
Great idea however the plastic rivet gun costs $14 at Harbor Freight and the special pliers cost $30.
Forward to 3:15 if you want to skip the small talk.
Does this work on the metal ones bro?

Sorry, I have not tried it on metal but I think it would be very difficult to use this method on aluminum or steel pop rivets. If you try it, be sure to help others by coming back here and sharing your results in the comment section so others can benefit from your efforts. Thanks and good luck.
Yea,‘be watched it.
You really really need the proper tool if you do many of those..
Plastic rivet tool costs about 25 bucks. Will save you 95% of the time. And lasts a lifetime. I'm a bodyman for GMC. The rivets this dude put it are not installed properly and are going to cause issues with fit, and he's damaging everything he's using to pry against to pop the rivet at all.
Please feel free to contact me if u need car clips and tools.
C'mon. Take the rubber band off your wallet at Harbor Freight and do it right. It's too easy to do a half-a** job and have a loose rivet. Or a damaged part. Or both. But snaps for braving it out in the rain to shoot the video.

I have THREE guns but this way you don't have to remove the tire. Plus, some guns won't fit the large plastic stems which are larger than the metal ones in order to have the strength. Not everyone has a Harbor Freight nearby. Thanks for the kudo though

@@YuDaMan why are you watching if you already have a rivet gun???????
fail
Rivet tool $10.00 local harbor freight. Poors work harder
video not clear
Just sayin... but my $20.00us Stanley rivet gun works fine on these plastic rivets...
Just came across this video and couldn't help but laugh! The tool is $15-$20 tops and will save you some time and fiddling around doing it this way. Stop being such a cheap ass!
Or just buy the proper tool for $15. Ridiculous
i mean the tools are like 20 bucks. but yeah
