Nice I soldered my Radio aftermarket harness on my nissan, I think radio harness should always be soldered and taped you don't want to take your dash apart to reinstall a radio plus nothing like a Soldered connection. Thanks again for sharing.

I'm really amazed how you take your time to respond to every single comment. Your videos made me buy the hud drive and currently waiting for delivery. Is it also possible to hardwire that one along with a dashcam? Do you think it will also be possible to add more 12v ports (cigarette lighter) on top of that? Or would that be too much for the car to handle? I haven't looked at my new car's fusebox and electronics. It's a 2010 astra h twintop.

Ah regarding hardwiring the HUD, nope so far there is no kit out there to hardwire it (but sounds like a interesting idea to free up the cigarette lighter port) Regarding running more than one hardwire kit, yes it is possible (I run two kits on my cars since I run 2 dashcams at the same time) And for adding more spaces on the cigarette lighter port a splitter like this one amzn.to/39zWZnT can be used. @@AlexAutoFun Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately a splitter can't be used because it shorts the fuse when trying to plug in multiple devices. And due to the position of the cigarette lighter port, it'll get in the way of the climate controls

@@Rexy_Raccoon You're welcome Sam! ah yes for those cases with limited room in the plug area I use this style amzn.to/3Wz5XFC so I can move the ports to an area that has more clearance. Regarding power, yes you can max out the cigarette port with multiple high power devices connected (normally most ports are fused at 15A but this varies from car to car, I would double check your owners manual to confirm) Hope this helps, Helps!

You're welcome Zeeshan! Ah when correctly hardwired the dash cam will turn off and enter park mode (if enabled in the dash cam's setting and if the dash cam supports it) when the car is off. What I recommend when someone does not need park monitoring, is just to turn it off in the settings menu (most dash cams will let you turn off this feature). Cheers!

First of all I would like to thank for such a great and detailly explained video, which helps me a lot for hardwiring my wolfbox G850 to Corolla. However, as far as I know, fuses are coloured based on amp rating (i.e. standard blue fuse has a 15-amp rating, yellow is 20 amps and green is 30 amps). May I ask, how to determine what colour of fuse I should use for the dashcam kit? or just the blue one cut from the original dashcam kit is fine?

Thanks Sherlock! Ah yes the fuse for the hardwire kit is of the same value as what came with the kit. In this case since the kit came with a blue fuse (15A), I used a 15A fuse on the functional fuse tap. Cheers!

My hard hardwire kit is like that but it also have sa glass tube fuse in it and at the end of the wire it also have 15a/blue fuse, do I need to put another 15a/blue fuse on the holder?

Hi AxielLegends! Ah yes I seen that before, were there is a glass fuse in addition the molded fuse. Normally when converting the kit to functional fuse taps, I remove the glass fuse section, however there are some installers that will leave the glass fuses in place (so you have redundant protection when using functional fuse taps.). @@fredrick211 Hi Frederick! I use which ever fuse AMP rating that came with the hardwire kit (for safety I follow what the kit included or was made with but also for warranty purposes if something goes haywire down the road lol) Cheers!

Thanks for another good video. Just wondering if you have any thoughts on an issue I'm having - I am hardwiring a Wolfbox GS840S and it turns out that for a different electronic device, I had earlier installed a 12 V line off the accessory power port (cigarette lighter power port). So when I went to install the dashcam hardwire kit, I realized that I didn't have to connect the red accessory line to the fuse box... I could just attach it to that 12 V accessory power line (that is already fused with the vehicles 15 Amp fuse). So I just cut off that fuse and its overmold/holder at the end of that accessory line of the hardwire kit and attached it directly to that 12 V accessory power line that I had installed earlier. And now it doesn't power up. Can't figure it out - I confirmed that I'm getting 12 V at the input, and even getting voltage at the output (that micro USB that connects to the mirror) but no power. I've tested the mirror by using the supplied cigarette lighter power cord (that plugs into that cigarette power cord) and it works fine. The BATT (always on) (the yellow line) works fine to power up the device. Any thoughts? That red/orange line is fine (no damaged during install). I tried resetting the camera, re-installed microSD card, no luck. I've confirmed many times that the accessory line is getting a full 12V of power. Thanks for your help!

Hi Al W.! thank you! ah that is interesting, if you do have a good ground and have power both to both the ACC and BATT ends then hardwire kit should power up (I would also check the fuse tap is in the correct orientation, if the the ACC one is gone, maybe the BATT was inserted backwards?). But sounds like the dash cam is not turning on with it but it does turn on with the cigarette lighter adapter. Double check your hard wire kit (not sure which one you are using) make sure it's the Wolfbox recommended one here is the link if needed wolfbox.com/product/hardwarekit/?ref=RutnQdFA8PgPy, if it kit is the right one and it's still not powering up I would recommend contacting Wolfbox, just to make sure the kit they sent you it's not DOA. Hope this helps and please let us know what you find my friend!

Ah remember a functional fuse tap creates 2 separate independent circuits (each one with a different amp rating partially determined by fuses that are loaded into the each fuse slot in the fuse tap, the car's internal wiring and current load on the circuit to be tapped) The fuse removed from the car goes in the fuse tap bottom slot and the second fuse (top fuse) is for the hardwire kit. So they are each independent of each other, each one driving it's own load. How would the larger Amp fuse function here? Since both are connected to the same circuit the fuse with the lowest amperage rating will trip. This limits amperage for one circuit or makes it dangerously large for the other.

Ah remember a functional fuse tap create 2 separate independent circuits (each one with a different Amp # based on the fuses that are loaded into the each fuse slot in the fuse tap) The fuse removed from the car inserted in the fuse tap bottom slot. The second fuse (top fuse) is for the 2nd load, the hardwire kit load. That circuit does not impact when the bottom circuit pops. The original car fuse will continue to pop at it's rated Amperage (in this case 2A) and the hardwire kit will pop at 15A. Which one is the fuse that goes to the hardwire kit? I understand that the existing fuse from the car goes on the bottom of the tap but what fuse are you placing on the top? The light blue one?

Hi Rachana! good question! the fuse for the actual hard wire kit is the same one that came with the kit (for example if it came with a 15amp, then I use a 15amp which is blue) what sometimes changes is the size, but I keep the same amperage rating (same color) as what came with the kit. Does using a tap connection like this interfere with other devices in that fuse terminal? I've been super paranoid figuring out which fuses to use in my ProMaster van... Ended up just using the cig plug in connector for now.

I use hardwire kits with a low voltage cut off to prevent overtraining the battery however some brands do offer a stand alone battery pack like this one amzn.to/3bnExj6 but they are usually pricey and some people have concerns about charging and discharging a large lithium battery on their car (specially when unattended or when subjected to temperature extremes the car can potential see such as when left in the sun or in the winter) which is kind of the reason I think stand alone battery packs haven't take off in popularity. @Calvin You're welcome! ah that is a good question, while I have not had issues with my hardwire kits in all the years I been playing with dash cams, there is always an inherent risk when adding an aftermarket device to a car. Either installation can go wrong or the device can fail or some other latent failure may occur down the road. I know this may sound like an exaggeration but the example I give to people is that I had a friend who installed an aftermarket stereo on his car. Well the car caught on fire a few days later, and while it could have been the install, it could have also been the device or as my friend says maybe it was unrelated but just coincidence. So that is definitively something to keep in mind when deciding to upgrade your vehicle with aftermarket accessories. Hope this helps, Cheers!

One thing I ran into is the new Ford Explorer has the Micro3 blade. Which requires 3 blade fuses. The Red Tiger dash kit doesn’t come with wire taps and the explorer has no spares. So looks like I’ll have to find some taps that are cokpanyibe

When returning the fuse into the fuse panel, is it important to pay attention to the "in" & "out" side of each fuse link? I would assume the fuse handles current bi-directional, but my Rove Dashcam hardwire kit explaination of this leaves me confused

What do you think about just inserting a bare wire into the fuse slot and jamming the fuse in to wedge it in there? Another installer did this because there was no room in the fuse box for a fuse tap. (2) I may have to go with a professional, if it’s affordable and if I can even find one who does this kind of stuff.

When you put both wires in the butt connector do they have to touch each other inside the connector??

I have the double fuse taps for my 4 ch. Rexing cam. They come with 2v fuses. Is it ok to add a 15, or 20amp fuse, next to the 2amp, that came with the hardwire kit? Hi on one of your previous videos i saw you just pulled out the same amp fuse (15 amp) and plugged in the new one with the cable attached to the 15 amp fuse that came as is with the cables. This means the one 15 amp fuse runs for the new camera and the original 15amp fuse in that box location. Can you do that or do you have to put a fuse splice and add 2 fuses of 15 amps?

If you don't use the red wire part of the fuse tap, can you cut it off to save space?

Hi Hank! I'm assuming your are referring to the lead/wire? if so, yes it can be shorten and capped to ensure it will not short out with anything near it. Cheers!

First off, I just wanted to say THANK YOU for making these videos. I received a Redtiger dashcam with the same hardwire installation kit for Christmas. I know next-to-nothing about electrical components in cars, so your videos have been a lifesaver. However, I am down to one last question. I am in a situation where I need a fuse tap as I do not have an open slot. That said, when you mention plugging the dashcam fuse into the top slot of the fuse tap, did you simply just remove the fuse from the head of the dashcam wire, that you cut off to splice into the fuse tap wire? Liked and subscribed! :)

Would it be safe to assume it's an 15 amp fuse since it's blue? I get a little concerned after extensive (googling) reading comments from people saying using too high of an amperage could cause a short, or worse, a fire.

Ah yes the blue color is normally used to denote a 15A fuse, however in cases where there is doubt, installers will peel back the plastic molding on the original hardwire kit fuses and confirm the number physically stamped on the molded fuse or contact the manufacturer to confirm the fuse rating if there is still doubt. Ah correct, the bottom spot is for the fuse removed from the car (literally the same fuse) and the top fuse is for the hardwire fuse so the rating for the top fuse is determined by the hardwire kit being used. Hi Justine! I personally don't like to connect the hardwire molded fuse into a functional fuse tap, because I don't like how high the assembly gets when stacking the molded fuse from the hardwire kit into the functional fuse tap and then having to deal with cutting and shutting off the unused pigtail so it does not contact anything, that being said, I have seen people do it way (here is the video where I show this kzread.info/dash/bejne/qXWVxsGDcZrRqps.html at the 9:55 mark for those wondering what that looks like) Cheers!

Putting in a dash cam. One thing I've ran into and not sure how to proceed. I have multiple "factory designated" open fuse slots in my fuse box. In what position of the "Fuse Tap" would I place the 5A Dash cam fuse into, and would it be ok to simply leave the other slot of the "Fuse Tap" empty? Thanks

Hi Orhan! Ah remember a functional fuse tap creates 2 separate independent circuits. The fuse removed from the car in the fuse tap bottom slot and the second fuse (top fuse) is for the hardwire kit. So they are each independent of each other. @@chrisfiorot3793 Hi Chris! are you referring to using fuse taps to power a back up camera? if so, yes some installers have done it but I would recommend referring to the back up camera instructions to confirm this is an approved way of connecting the camera to avoid potential issues with warranty down the road if something goes wrong. I have a question! So my hardwiring kit already has a bullet connector connected to the fuse head part.... with the wrong (mini) fuse, how do I connect that to a micro fuse tap, like do I cut before the bullet connector or after the bullet connector of the original hardwiring kit before crimping it with the micro?

Hi Ray! Correct, bullet terminals are usually compatible, if your hardwire kit already has one, and your new fuse size end already has one too, the easiest way to swap it out would be to disconnect the existing incorrect fuse from the hardwire kit and test to see if the bullet terminal with the correct fuse size fits. In the rare case that the bullet terminals do no mate correctly, then yes I would cut off the terminal and install a matching one (so far I haven't encounter that but it may be possible someone out there is using a non-standard bullet terminal) Hope this helps, Cheers!

Hi, Alex. I have a 2015 Toyota Corolla Saloon and I intend to install a hardwire kit for the dash cam. The problem is that the fuse box has no free space, and the red and yellow wires in the kit already have a fuse attached. Of course, I can install a fuse tap on one of the fuses, but I noticed one thing: among the fuses in the box there is one for the rear window wiper. But my car doesn't have a rear wiper. And no seat heaters, although there is a fuse for it. Is there a reason why they are in the box, even though they are theoretically useless? Should I keep them and attach a fuse tap, or remove them and insert the wire from the kit? Thank you.

Hi there. I followed your links and purchased the fuse taps and female to male bullet butt crimp connector terminals. As my wiring from my dash camera is the wrong fuse type for my car. I can not seem to insert the fuse tap (male) into any of the female ends of the butt crimp connectors. The red connector (which you use) will not accept the fuse tap no matter how hard I try. I have tried all the different butt crimp connector colors to make sure. I am really frustrated here. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Hi John! I'm assuming you are referring to this bullet terminal kit amzn.to/3wCoKE3 They can mate to each other and also disconnect (with some amount of force). The kit is to ensure that the terminal is not damaged during the crimping process. Here is the crimp tool I used amzn.to/3l1cHut Alternatively if there is no need to separate the wires in the future, a standard butt crimp can be used as shown on the video, here is the butt crimp terminals I use amzn.to/3wfVClz Cheers!

Hi Super! Your installer will refer to the instruction manual that came with your amp to determine the fuse size. If the manual is lost, it can likely be downloaded from the company's website or the vendor could be contacted for tech support. Cheers!

What's the problem with removing the original fuse(asuming same color) ? Doesn't the hardwire kit has fuses too?

Hi Gaston! you can see why sometimes the original fuse that comes with the hardwire kit has to be replaced at the beginning of the video (1st reason being the fuse size of the kit maybe different from your car's fuse size and the 2nd is that your fuse box may not have spare spaces available, the fuse tap add an additional use slot). @@gastonbarreto7060 Hi Gaston! Ah good question, remember the hardwire kit needs a specific source of power, unfortunately it can't just be any blue fuse. It has to be connected to: Accessory Power (turns off with the car) and Constant Power (always on) and compounding this issue is that it is not recommended to use fuses that control critical functions of the vehicle as that can create a safety hazard if they pop due to the dash cam tapping into those, so they number of possible locations where the hardwire kit can be connected is very narrow, here is a video where I cover this in more detail kzread.info/dash/bejne/kYGgtKxrj8bKYtI.html Hope this helps and thanks for watching bud!

Tsk Tsk - To the wire end of the Fuse Tap Adapter, I crimped the FEMALE Insulated Heat Shrink connector. This way I have no exposed metal on the Fuse Tap Adapter connector that could cause problems if or when the connectors are disconnected. Yes, I can leave the disconnected Fuse Tap Adapter in place even after the Dash cam wire has been disconnected. Consider checking out the "E-Volt Insulated Heat Shrink connectors". Consider "Spade" connectors in preference to "Bullet" connectors, which are easier to "see" that the wire has been push in far enough but not too far in, B4 crimping the connector. Also, the E-Volt contains red, blue, & Yellow Insulated Heat Shrink Butt Connectors.

Yes different quick disconnect connectors can be used (and the order can be switched as far is which is female or male as required depending on the application) , this is just a general description of how quick disconnect and butt splice connectors are installed. While most installers have a preference over one over another there are cases where the customer specifies a specific connector and most installers can accommodate for it. Cheers!

Hi there, why not just insert the fuse for the hardwire kid into the fuse tap (as well as the original fuse as you show in the videio), cut off the wire on the fuse tap altogether and call it a day? Am I missing something here?

Not sure which blue rubber fuse tap your are referring to, but if you are referring to the bullet terminal show at 2:05, those are used when you want to have the ability to disconnect and disconnect the wire (the bullet terminal have a male and female type). If there is no need to have a quick disconnect terminal, then a butt splice can be used as shown at the 2:20 mark. Butt splices crimp the wires together creating the connection. Hi Christopher, not sure where your installer wants to use electrical tape. There are cases where it can be safely used and I also seen cases where using it can be a potential failure point or safety hazard. I would recommend to let the installer decide his approach as long as he has experience doing this installs (and is licensed and insured) you should be ok. Hope this helps, Cheers!

While it is nice to have matching red and yellow wires (and helps to keep track of which is BATT and ACC) it is not necessary which is the reason we mainly see fuse tap kits only include the red color. @@AlexAutoFun can you tell me how to know how strong is the fuse in hardwire kit ( usb c slot), in wolfbox kit? My G900 is not good. Lots of bugs, it restarts from time to time, rear camera at night is horror. I have white snow in the dark and low light. Try everything. And i contact support i will get new complete kit, but can you show me the rear camera but in the cmplete dark? Maybe from 850 or 880 ( rear camera is metal and heavy). In the daylight and with some light os ok but nothing better from Vantop. Vantop rear camera show dark and this one white snow. Also the reverse guadline mod is better in Vantop. The lines are wider picture is bigger. In Wolfbox if i choose wide reverse screen everything is magnified and i need to go i portret mode. But then the picture is smaller. Also 2 aeconds delay when i put gear in reverse to see the picture in mirror. Can you tested or can i call you on some number maybe?

@@nkojic Hi Nemanja! Unfortunately I have not reviewed the hardwire kit for the G900 yet so I can't confirm the fuse, but oh man sorry to hear your G900 is giving you issues. That is kind of the reason I sometimes wait on new products, since they are new, there can sometimes be bugs or issues that are still being worked out (this is true on any new product that just came out, part of the price we all pay for having the latest model I guess! Hi Cruz! The bullet terminals (the ones you push together) are not crimped (the advantage of bullet terminals is that they can always be disconnected again unlike Butt Splices). Crimping is normally only done on Butt Connectors (the terminals where you insert a wire and crimp). Cheers!
