Thanks for the video. How do you stop the rope from rotating around the drum when re-spooling? Also, how much of the rope length do you lose when to re-spooling the drum so that the rated pulling weight can be achieved? Thanks

With this style drum, the rope is attached through a hole in the drum, so by feeding the rope through that hole and splicing it back into itself, that creates a solid attachment to the drum stopping any slipping or rotation. Depending on the quality of the splice and the hole not having any sharp edges, maximum capacity can potentially be achieved straight away, with no wraps around the drum. With other styles of drums and attachment, there is no "one size fits all" number of wraps around the drum to achieve max capacity. But as a general rule, five wraps should be enough. However, with many winches from china (and most are made in china regardless of the brand name), the attachment to the drum can sometimes be pulled apart while there is close to a full drum of rope wrapped around the drum. Which is why I suggest the method I do, splicing through the hole, if there is one.

Just an eBay special. Actually pretty good quality little unit. 5000LB 24v. If ya grab cheap eBay winches, make sure they have fabricated steel drums if you're using it with dyneema. All those cheap winches they're flogging on eBay and other websites, with dyneema rope on a cast chinesium ally drum, the way dyneema works, as soon as you load them up, they push out sideways and break the drum and the winch is a paper weight.

@@nickking8317 the cast ally drums have teeth etc built in. Easier to just buy one of these with the steel fabbed drum 👌
